Welcome Parents/ Guardians! I took this mountain photo (pictured left) while in Switzerland four years ago. High above the clouds, I stood in awe of the scenery. I noticed four people standing at the edge of a distant mountain, and then suddenly they began taking turns posing and jumping for a photo op. This image continues to resonate with me as we enter a new school year again. It reminds me that despite fear and difficult times, I can still persevere, grow and find joy.
A little about me - This will be my 12th year with Abington in a special education classroom and my 18th year total teaching in the public school system. I received my B.A. in both Special and General education from Eastern University, and I received an M.Ed. in Exceptional Children and Youth with an Autism certification from the University of Delaware.
For the first 6 years of my career I successfully worked at the elementary school level with the Delaware Autism Program. I firmly believe in solid team collaboration and following best practices in order to create the finest programming possible for our students, and in 2010-2011 in Delaware I was voted as my school’s Teacher of the Year and recognized before the board of education.
Since my years as a teenager, I have fallen in love with the art of teaching and supporting students to become lifelong learners and successful citizens. At the age of 15, I joined a home early intervention team as an ABA therapist and I worked with multiple families while attending high school and college.
I love to volunteer and over the past couple summers I helped with a local food cupboard. I have also helped at literacy camps in neighborhoods where children have limited opportunities, and I was in Mississippi two times immediately after Hurricane Katrina to help with relief efforts. I also firmly believe in furthering my education and staying up to date with best practices, and I have attended summer courses at Columbia University at the Teacher’s College in NYC. I have obtained my Masters +30 credits. I also love traveling and photography, and during the pandemic I began drawing and attempting the ukulele! And I had a blast this summer with my 18 month old daughter!
I believe that even the tiniest bit of positive reinforcement goes a long way, and I am excited to start the year on a positive foot for everyone! I look forward to learning more about you and your child. We continue to be in this together!
