Thank you for signing up your child for Reading Olympics!
Here is the latest information:
Reading Olympics is a reading club that culminates into a competition in the spring. Highland Reading Olympiads meet during recess to check on their progress, hold mock competitions, and gather together to celebrate reading. Reading Olympics is meant to broaden our reader's experience and allow them to read books they may not be familiar with, and work collaboratively as part of a group.
This is the list of this year's books. Highland Library has all of them, and they can also be checked out of the Abington Free Library.
Children will be expected to read and be able to answer questions about books off this list, typically we recommend for each team of 12 students, they read 5 or more books off the list. After reading each book, children turn in an index card with questions about the book that we use when we do our practice rounds prior to the competition.
We will know around January of 2026 of the exact date and location of our competition. There is one after school competition, and all other practices and meetings take place during the school day. Children in after school activities may have to miss one night of their activity, but that is it. We also celebrate - children get a t-shirt for the competition, a pizza party, and some extra recess time prior to the competition.
