To help provide students a balance with screen time, I will be assigning students to write down vocabulary words and their meanings in a notebook/packet. I will also ask them to record grammatical points in there as well. This will provide students time away from the screen and will also provide students a resource to use while learning that isn't another document or tab opened on their computer.
We will be using Quizlet to practice vocabulary. This website allows students to hear the vocabulary words and to practice them like flashcards. I upgraded my account so that the audio will be my voice and not a computer-generated one. I will also be monitoring how often students use the site and will be assigning them activities via Quizlet. I hope this tool works well for us all. Students will be given a class link via Google Classroom so that they join the correct class.
Flipgrid is a platform for students to practice speaking Spanish with each other in a more formal manner. On this site, I will post a topic/prompt and students will record a response. We will also be using this site to do speaking assessments. I will be providing students a method to login to their assigned class.
Another educational resource we will be using this year is called Edpuzzle. This site allows me to upload a video and embed questions for students to answer at certain points. It helps to 'chunk' information into small segments to keep students engaged in a lesson. I will also be able to grade these assignments.
Wordreference.com is my online dictionary of choice. I do not recommend Google Translate to look up words. I recommend students use https://www.wordreference.com/ since it provides much more information about the word than Google Translate.
