SUMMER SPARK GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS & STUDENTS

PROMOTION

Students in Grades 1-8 who do not meet district promotion criteria must successfully complete both Session 1 and Session 2 to be considered for promotion to the next grade. Please remember that Summer Spark Curriculum for promotion is presented at an extremely intense pace in order to cover the state-required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in a limited time period. ALL students enrolled in Summer Spark courses for promotion will be expected to master at least 70% of the material presented.

Students in Grades 1-5 whose annual course average was less than 60 must successfully complete Summer Spark and complete a locally-developed grade level exam to be considered for promotion.

In order to meet the 90% attendance requirement, any student with more than two absences per course MUST continue attending class in Session 3 to make up the missed days or will have to repeat the grade level.

FOR COURSE RECOVERY IN GRADES 9-12

Students must complete all required coursework within the Summer Spark program dates.

TARDY POLICY

Because of the short length of class sessions and academic intensity of Summer Spark, prompt and consistent attendance is required. Under the Discipline Management System of Summer Spark, students who are persistently tardy to class may be dropped from attendance at Summer Spark. Five tardies of fewer than 10 minutes each shall count as one absence and being late 10 minutes or more shall count as one absence for the course missed.
