Summer ARTssignment Information
for incoming AP Artists 25-26
Part 1: In order to start the year off right all registered students must complete AT LEAST 10 sketchbook pages BEFORE the first day of class in August
&
Part 2: Complete A written statement to assess your commitment and goals coming into the course.
Part 1: Sketchbook! Sketchnotes! Art Journal!
What should your Sketchbooks look like? The process of planning future works, new mediums, new concepts and ideas should be documented somewhere safe, starting now! Think of this as a diary for your art making, and refer back to it often throughout the summer. You will need to sketch and document like this in order to be successful in AP, particularly in the "Sustained Investigation" section of the Exam.
Sketchbook pages do not have to be in a bound book, but that would be easiest if you primarily work on paper. Please keep all of your images together and photograph them regularly, Documentation of your PROGRESS (not the finished work) is required for the AP exam. Photographing your in-progress and finished work is essential if your sketches/sketchbook becomes lost or damaged. If you work digitally, then you may submit digital sketches.
How will we share and turn in our Sketches/ ARTssignment?
You will photograph/scan your 5 best pages and create a google slide deck to share with the class the first week of school, so we can get to know eachother's art styles, future plans and interests.
What does your ARTssignment need to have in order to receive full credit?
Your sketchbook pages should be completed during the summer before the first day of class.
Each page should reflect at least 30 minutes of work.
Date your drawings and put the amount of time spent on each drawing somewhere on the page.
You are expected to TRY a variety of media this upcoming year. Summer is a great time to practice! Some media you should consider using are as follows:
Pencil , Pen, Marker, India ink, Colored pencil
Embroidery
Acrylic paint, Watercolor
Digital media
Collage, Mixed media/Assemblage
Ceramics, fiber sculpture and other 3-D techniques
**Your skill level/aptitude in these sketches will not be used to assess your eligibility for the course or given a grade other than credit or no credit: rather, these sketchbook pages are an assessment of your commitment to practice and experimentation, both of which are essential for success in this course.
If you would like a better idea of what sketchbook pages might look like, take a look at the examples below:
Part 2: Written Statement
You will also respond to the following prompt in 500 words or less, using a paragraph format (no bullet points):
