Some ideas for checking your work! (You can also get someone else to help you, but you should do your own checks too!)
Spell check first. Make sure your spell checker is set to the language of the work.
Read from the bottom. This will make your brain actually read what is written, not what you think you have written.
Baking time: complete the work and then a night (or ideally a week) later, read the work again for proofreading purposes.
Proofread for purpose: don't read everything and correct everything together. Instead, read for spelling first, then read for grammar, then read for formatting, then read for citations, and so on. Checking one thing each time will help you keep focus.
Use a physical copy and follow with your finger or a ruler: seeing it on the page, not the screen, will help you see things in a new way. It also allows you to follow the text physically (point at each word as you read it, or use a ruler to focus on one line at a time). If you want to save paper, consider changing the background to a different colour, and make the font larger and clearer. Use serif fonts (like this one - sans serif are like this).
Read out loud: if you read it aloud, you are more likely to hear mistakes in word choice, grammar and punctuation.
Final point: there is no quick way to do this. Tools like Grammarly are a shortcut but do not do the whole job for you.
