Today we said farewell to our car as it was taken by RN transport down to the racetrack. We all came to check it was loaded safely and waved goodbye!
17/5/24 Thanks to our friends at Serco we now have the electrics fitted. It was reassuring having experts to help us with this part. We were at a transition event at Hermitage Academy so Henry in P6 helped out
13/5/24.....It was full steam ahead this afternoon with our build team managing to fit the seat, roll bar and seatbelt. The brake is also in so we can now stop safely!
Final part to be added is the batteries and wiring. This will hopefully be finished ths week so we will have 2 weeks of testing before the race at the end of the month.
After a break in the build due to holidays and a broken part we are back on track. The back axle is now in place thanks to the efforts of Mr. Brown, Mr. Couper and Mr. Grant. This was the hardest part of the build so far due to some tricky split pins which needed a lot of force to be hammered into place.
The next task is fitting the throttle and brake.
15/3/24 .......front wheels at least! A small team worked on the front axle. There was some confusion as we were building it upside down to the diagram . Once the axle was fitted there was a groan all round as the steering mechanism wasn't working. We problem solved and realised that two bolts were done up too tight. So with a little readjustment it worked. You can now turn the steering wheel.
4/3/24 - Today all of P7 got a chance to build part of the car. We were very lucky to have the RN Stem Outreach team visit us to run some coding and pneumatics workshop. They also provided us with lots of help on the build. Having real life mechanical engineers working with us was fantastic. We have the main chassis built and will move on to the axles and steering at the end of this week.
The engineers told us about their job and we're glad we were working in a clean classroom. They often have to repair machines whilst in narrow spaces, working upside down and in the wet!
1/3/24 - The build has really begun. It took time to get used to the tools but we managed the first part of the chassis.
1/3/24 - we sorted some of the fixings out and are very grateful for your takeaway tubs which are helping. We also received a very generous donation of this fantastic toolbox which will definitely keep us organised.
29/2/24 - The first part of our build is the chassis. We identified the parts we needed and couldn't believe how many nuts, bolts and washers will be needed
24/2/24 - We created a foam tiled floor to make the pitstop build area. We hope that the floor will protect our knees!
