Visible Learning

At Woodside School we know that children can get stuck in 'The Learning Pit' and encourage them to look at different strategies they can use to help them move through it.

Our school community helped us design five ‘Pit Pals’ – they are characters who represent the kind of attitude you need to work your way out of the learning pit.

Curious

A curious learner is like a detective trying to solve a mystery. They look for clues to help them find answers and are confident to ask questions.

Positive

A positive learner is happy when learning. They offer support to their classmates. They understand that challenge is an important part of learning.

Creative

A creative learner uses their imagination. They are able to think about things in lots of different ways. If something doesn’t work, they think of a different way to approach it.

Resilient

A resilient learner keeps on trying, no matter how challenging things get. They can learn from their mistakes and they have a Growth Mindset.

Determined

A determined learner wants to do their best, no matter what. They set themselves goals and work hard to achieve them. They are driven to overcome challenges.
