Nursery Learning
In nursery, as in all areas of the school, we aim to encourage our children to become
Successful Learners
Confident Individuals
Responsible Citizens
Effective Contributors
In order to develop these four capacities our children participate in active learning. Active learning is learning which engages and challenges children’s thinking using real life and imaginary situations. It takes full advantage of the opportunities for learning presented by:
Spontaneous play
Planned, purposeful play
Investigating and exploring
Events and life experiences
Focused learning and teaching
Our approach is a child centred one where the children are encouraged to take ownership of their learning. We listen to the views of our children and their interests and choice of activities influence the learning and teaching which take place in our nursery. Most of all, we aim for learning to be active and fun!
All children are entitled to a broad and balanced curriculum where pupils will be involved in experiences relating to:
Health and wellbeing
Sciences
Languages
Technologies
Mathematics
Expressive Arts
Social Studies
Religious and Moral Education
