We have chosen the Great Oak tree to represent our nursery, and this is reflected within our vision, values and aims. Oak trees are a symbol of courage. They are popular because of their strength and resilience. Other special meanings include wisdom and honour, as well as strength of character. Oaks are also believed to be a healing tree, for the heart and soul, as well as the body in general.
At Duthie Park Outdoor Nursery, our vision statement is:
"Nurturing young learners from seedlings to Great Oaks"
Our values mirror those represented by the Great Oak tree. Each value has shaped the aims we have set as a nursery team:
Courage - We aim to nurture our learners to build self confidence, self esteem, and the courage to be themselves. We want them feel confident and capable to reach their fullest potential.
Resilience - We aim to empower our learners to tackle difficult challenges, embrace failures as learning opportunities, and persevere until they achieve their goals.
Wisdom - We encourage learners to appreciate what we can learn from the world around us. We aim to provide children with the knowledge and skills to look after our planet as they grow and develop as individuals.
Heart - Our learners and their families are at the heart of our practice. We believe children learn best when they feel safe and loved. We aim to tailor our curriculum to meet the holistic needs of each individual child and their family.
