National 4 has 3 mandatory units:
Understanding Language : This assesses competency in Reading and Listening.
Using language: This assesses competency in Talking and Writing.
You will have 4 assessments: one of each of the above. The Grade is Pass/Fail.
Added Value Unit You will complete this in term 2. 2 reading passages where you fill in the blanks about each passage. You will prepare a speaking presentation on the topic of the unit and answer some questions as a follow up. This is prepared in class . This must be passed in order to gain the full award.

Entry Requirements:
Recommendation from class teacher based on test results and aptitude for languages in BGE in S3.
Pupils must have studied French in S3.
Pupils must be at least SECURE at Third level.
Progression:
National 5 depending on National 4 performance.

Recommendation from class teacher based on proven ability and aptitude for Understanding Language and Using Language.
Pupils must have studied French in S3.
Pupils must be operating at least at the DEVELOPING stage of Fourth level.
