The purpose of the question paper is to assess application of knowledge and skills from across the course. It allows candidates to demonstrate their ability to interpret questions and respond in an informed way.
All candidates are assessed on their preparation for performance which includes research into chosen text, thoughts and ideas for proposed performance, and the development of these thoughts and ideas.
Candidates undertaking an acting role must perform to an audience. The performance must involve interaction with at least one other actor.
Candidates undertaking a production role are assessed on the practical realisation.
Course Requirements
National 5 Drama
Question paper exam = 60 marks, 40% of overall mark. 1hr 30 mins to complete.
Performance exam = 60 marks, 60% of overall mark.

Encourage your child to practise their instrument and/or singing at home where possible and listen to them playing their pieces. The music and backing tracks are available for all pupils on our Senior Phase Website.
Encourage your child to revise the music concepts and styles they have learned in class every week. They can do this in a variety of ways such as creating match cards to test themselves, creating powerpoints or making mind maps. They should use the concept trackers on their Google Classrooms to identify what they need to focus on for revision - you can ask them to show you this and encourage them to use it! Extra revision materials are available on our Senior Phase Website

Encourage your child to source materials for their projects at home. They should be looking for sound effects, music samples and loops.
Ask your child to go over their project plans with you and explain what they are doing. Then encourage them to check over their plans weekly and make any updates that they didn't have time to complete in class.
Look over our Music Technology Website with your child and encourage them to use this to revise for the understanding paper, and to ensure they are clear about project requirements.

Units: Acting Through Song / Theatre Performers: Solo Singing/ Prep for Audition / Voice Skills
Encourage your child to listen to a variety of songs from musicals and watch different performances of each song
Where possible encourage your child to participate in local theatre groups and go for auditions
Ask your child to show you their work on Google Classroom and encourage them to keep up to date with any of the written work they miss in class at home.
Watch your child performing their songs and/or monologues to you where possible to help develop their confidence
