English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Service Overview

The EAL team work in partnership with schools and early years’ settings to support language development and celebrate multi-culturalism across the City.

We are proud to have been supporting bi/multi-lingual learners and their families in Aberdeen City for over 50 years!

The EAL team are part of the ASN & Outreach Service and currently consist of a Depute Head Teacher, Principal Teacher (ESOL & Senior Phase EAL) and a core group of teachers and Bilingual Pupil Support Assistants (BPSAs) working in both Primary and Secondary schools.

Learning in 2+ Languages aims to help practitioners working with bilingual learners by identifying good practice in supporting young people whose first language is not English to access the curriculum through English as an additional language (EAL).
