Children love a rescue mission and  small toys or items being frozen always gets children excited.  You can help extend the experience for them by providing them with materials that may or may not help. Warm water, a toy hammer, salt, soda bicarbonate & vinegar are a few ideas.  Children might ask for their own rescue kits!

Fruit, vegetables, herbs, seeds and small outdoor things like daisies, grass and leaves can be frozen too.  Cooled boiled water produces clearer ice.

Why not make your own bubbles using the recipe below and use this to try and freeze bubbles outside. You can also make your own bubble wands using pipe cleaners.

Make your own bubbles recipe:

Measure 6 cups of water into one container, then pour 1 cup of dish soap into the water and slowly stir it until the soap is mixed in. Try not to let foam or bubbles form while you stir. Measure 1 tablespoon of glycerine or 1/4 cup of corn syrup and add it to the container. Stir the solution until it is mixed together.

Loose parts provide opportunities for children to take their learning and creativity in their own direction. Their ideas are fantastic and often are not thought of by yourself.  Everyday items are a great place to start.  Things like cereal, pasta, lentils, cake sprinkles, raisins, pulses, milk carton lids, corks, sequins, beads, foil milk bottle tops are a few ideas that you may have at home.  Craft items are fab too if you have them.  Stones, shells, twigs, sticks, petals are a few natural resources you might be able to gather on your daily walks that would be great too.
