Pupils in Primary 5 and Primary 5/6 last week listened to a 'Lockdown mix-tape' and shared feelings and memories that they were comfortable to share. We listened to the BBC news music, spoke about Joe Wicks the 'Nation's PE teacher' and thought back to the rainbows we drew and hung in our windows. Some of the emotion words we came up with are below the pictures above.

Understanding the Emotion Works 5 cog model

04.09.20

Today Primary 5 looked at the Emotion Works 5 cog model as a whole. We watched a music video and unpicked the emotional trigger, inferred body sensations and feelings, looked at behaviours and brain stormed advice. After we created cartoon strips relating to the 5 cog model to retell real or imaginary stories.

Ask us - What do the cogs represent? How does the model work in real life?

P5/6 Growth Mindset Survey

Primary 5/6 watched a video on the difference between a 'growth mindset' and 'a fixed mindset'.

We then completed a survey in class to discover what type of mindset we have at present.

We discovered from the results of our survey that the majority of us have a growth mindset or a partial growth mindset.

We are aware that our mindset can always change so we hope in time, we will all be thinking more positively!

11.09.20

Primary 5 have been researching viruses for Health and Wellbeing. In pairs they researched some facts and then used those facts to create some information posters to show our learning.

Circle Time in P5/6

At Circle Time this week, the class shared a positive thought about one of their peers. Here are some nice examples of what they said - spreading the positivity!

2.10.20 Primary 5/6 Blue Cross Virtual Talk

Thank you to the Blue Cross for hosting a really informative virtual talk on safety around dogs today. We all learnt what we should and shouldn't do around dogs and what to do to keep ourselves safe.

As it is also Maths Week Scotland, we discussed animal welfare and researched the cost of owning a pet. Turns out it is much more expensive that we thought it would be!

30.10.20 Primary 5/6 Anti Bullying Assembly

Today Primary 5/6, alongside lots of other pupils and staff, took the pledge against bullying. We discussed what bullying is, how it can make us feel and identified who can help us. Most importantly, we shared how we can support each other to stand up to bullying.

Take the pledge with us as together we can put a stop to bullying, celebrate diversity and create communities of kindness.

30.10.20

Gratitude suns

Primary 5 was exploring the power of the 'Yellow Cog!' in emotion works this week.

The Yellow Cog is our 'trigger' cog. Primary 5 thought of things that trigger them to feel grateful and then drew these beautiful 'gratitude suns.'

18.11.20 - Emotion Works P5

Acting out scenarios for Emotion Works to show different emotions. This picture shows how we would feel if we won £1000!!

19.11.20 - John Lewis Advert P5

We watched the new John Lewis Christmas advert 'Give a Little Love'. We identified the emotions in the advert and the acts of kindness. P5 then discussed the importance of being kind and how it can change how how someone is feeling.

26.11.20 - Purple Cog P5

For Emotion Works, P5 have been exploring the purple cog - influences. We focused on social media, looking at how comments can be misinterpreted, bullying online and how these things can influence how we feel. We then looked at the positives and negatives of social media.

30.11.20 - Rights Respecting P5

Our rights respecting focus this week was anti-bullying. We discussed how acts of kindness are never wasted. P5 wrote anonymous kind comments about each other. It was lovely to see smiling faces and was a big confidence boost to everyone.
