Course Overview
The main features of this course are to develop a young person’s understanding of the interactions at work between human and physical landscapes. The course includes the study of the following units;
Physical: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Lithosphere (Glaciation and Coasts) and Hydrosphere
Human: Population, Rural and Urban
Global Issues: Development & Health and Climate Change
In addition to the above units, there is an Assignment which links to a unit covered and involves fieldwork and a write-up.
The exam (covering the 3 units above) is worth 73% of your final grade, and the remaining 27% comes from your Assignment mark.

Assessment Methods
Component 1: Question paper 1 — physical and human environments (100 marks, 1 hour and 50 minute exam) Component 2: Question paper 2 — global issues and geographical skills (60 marks, 1 hour and 10 minute exam)
Component 3: Assignment (30 marks, 1 hour and 30 minute write up under exam conditions)
Entry Requirements
While entry is at the discretion of the department, pupils are expected to have attained:
Grades A – C in National 5 Geography
