Skills & Personal Development

NPA Level 4/5

Course Overview

The main purpose of the Personal Development Award is to provide an opportunity for learners to develop the skills and self-knowledge to prepare them for successful transitions in life.

Skills & Personal Development Awards can help build self-confidence and resilience, with learners encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. Through involvement in personal, group and vocational projects, learners can develop valuable interpersonal and task management skills, practical abilities and self-awareness.

The course has four units:

Self-Awareness

Pupils will aim to build confidence and self-esteem through self-evaluation of their own qualities, feelings, achievements and areas of development, whilst undertaking a group project.

Self and Community

Pupils will develop their interpersonal skills as they work with others to participate in a group fund raising project.

Self and Work

Pupils will set individual targets for the development of task management skills while carrying out a vocational project.

Practical Abilities:

Pupils will aim to improve their self-reliance and confidence by demonstrating their practical abilities while participating in one or more projects.
