S2 Modern Studies

Course Overview
The S2 Modern Studies Course builds upon the learning experience in S1. It enables pupils to develop the skills and competencies required for progression to the senior phase in Modern Studies. The course is split into two major themes looking at Conflict leading to Migration and International aspects of Democracy. The pupils will learn three main skill questions and also the structure to answer knowledge based questions at a higher level. Critical studying and debating is integrated within the course and will help pupils to develop not only their knowledge but many of the critical soft skills needed later in life
Units covered are as follows:
The Syrian War and its impacts
Refugee Crisis and Immigration to the UK
The USA - Its system of government and issues around gun laws
China – Its growing influence and issues around freedom
Skills development – Support and Oppose, Conclusion and Option Choice Questions
Debating – Development of research and presentation skills
