2019 Lightning Girls Golf

General Information

1. Practice will begin on Monday, August 12^th from 8:30 – 10:00 am at Irish Waters Golf Course in Freedom. The first week, there will be technique practice and playing. On Wednesday of the first week, I will determine the varsity and junior varsity players; however, the order may change as the season progresses. The first match is 3 days after the beginning of season. Once school begins, all players will practice Monday through Friday from 3:30 till 5:00. I will inform the girls when practice or matches are cancelled due to weather.

2. In order to participate in a sport at Appleton North you must have the following on file in the business office by 8:00 am on Monday, August 12^th:

1) Physical or alternate year form

2) Signed code of conduct form

3) $50 participation fee

4) Medical treatment consent card

5) WIAA High School Athlete Eligibility form

6) Concussion Form

You will not be allowed to practice without a valid physical on file in the office! Missing days of practice because you haven’t taken care of business can and will hurt your chances of making the team. All forms and fees should be turned in to the business office. Forms can be obtained in the business office or accessed through the Appleton North website.

3. All players are expected to take the bus/van to and from matches, unless it is a match at Irish Waters. If a parent is driving you to or from a meet you will need a signed travel release by our parents and the AD. Athletes will never be allowed to drive themselves to or from a match, but they can drive to and from practice.

4. Varsity players are expected to stay at a match until all players finish. Every player is important, and we need to show support for all teammates.

5. All practices and matches are MANDITORY! A strong team consists of players who are committed to performing at their highest level possible. Therefore, we need you to be at every practice. In the event that you have a legitimate excuse for missing practice (such as illness, doctor’s appointment, death in the family) a note from a parent or guardian must be presented to the coach prior to the player’s absence from the practice or meet.

6. Work is not a legitimate excuse for missing practice. Work schedules must be cleared to accommodate your golf schedule. An unexcused absence will result in you missing the next scheduled meet.

7. You will not be allowed to miss golf practice for participation in any other sport. The WIAA has taken the stance that if you play a high school sport, your loyalty should be to the team that is in season at that time.

8. Cell phone policy. Do not use your cell phone while playing golf in a match. Be respectful.

9. Respect the golf course. We are guests and have the honor to play at the golf course. Pick up after yourself and obey the rules of the course. We want be welcomed for many years to come.

10. It is not against WIAA rules to take lessons from a private coach during the season. However, you will not be allowed to miss a team practice for it. You are not allowed to play in any tournaments during the high school season outside of the school’s approved schedule unless approved by coaches. You can’t accept prizes.

Information on Making Varsity and JV

1. At the beginning of the season there will be rounds to determine an appropriate line-up. The lineup may change throughout the year based on practice and meet scores. For various reasons throughout the season the varsity line-up may need to be changed. This may occur due to an illness, injury, ineligibility of an athlete to participate or other reason. The line-up will be determined keeping in mind what will be best for us as a team.

2. The varsity team will consist of the top 6 golfers and the rest are on junior varsity.

3. In order to receive a varsity letter you must play in a total of 4 varsity matches, win or lose.

Dress and Equipment

1. Practice attire should consist of comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather, including cold and raining. You should always be prepared to practice outside! Make sure you have appropriate athletic shoes for practice and matches.

2. Players will be provided with collared shirts, but not skirts. I will distribute the shirts the first Friday of practice. I will also give out Appleton North golf bags.

Co-Curricular Code

1. As a reminder, every athlete on this team is to abide by the co-curricular code from the time you sign it till the day you leave North High School. This includes the tennis season, the remainder of the school year, and the summer months. Please make yourself familiar with the co-curricular code here at North.

2. If suspended from any amount of meets the athlete is still required to participate in practices.

3. The honor code is not meant to scare you, but to help you make good decisions. If you believe that you may have done something in violation of the co-curricular code, PLEASE see me so we can talk about it, and work out a good resolution. Your honesty means a lot!

4. You must be in school the entire day of a match in order to compete! If you are called in sick for any part of the day, you will not be eligible to practice or compete. If you have an appointment, make sure you bring in an appoint form from the location.

Conduct On and Off the Course

1. Sportsmanship is of utmost importance as you represent yourself as an individual, as a team member, and as a member of the Appleton North community!

2. Be honest! And, call out others who are not honest. Be proud of yourself and representing Appleton North. Check scores with other players after each hole. Make sure everyone agrees on the scores.
