Combine the power of rapid, intensive psychotherapy with the foundation of carefully selected medication.
Often it is only great pain that opens us to walking the difficult road to real healing; to face our fears and bear our feelings, good and bad. This path leads to the freedom to be more than we thought possible, and sometimes the freedom to be less than we felt pressured to become. We may grow into a better parent, a better spouse, a better friend, a better colleague. We may find the strength to stand up for ourselves in ways we never thought possible. And where before we might act out or shut down, we may find the peacefulness to let go or forgive.
My name is Aaron Winkler. I am a board-certified psychiatrist. After medical school and psychiatry residency, I completed a fellowship in university and college mental health, and three years of core training in Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. At the conclusion of training, I was asked to start an ADHD clinic for adults at Stanford University. I developed a new comprehensive diagnostic and treatment approach for adults with ADHD and have presented it locally, nationally, and internationally. I presently serve on the APSARD National Task Force for developing diagnosis and treatment guidelines for the care of adults with ADHD. I left the Stanford clinic in the capable hands of a colleague I was lucky to train, and now work with patients in private practice. I still write, speak and teach. But my primary focus these days in on my patients.
I offer comprehensive diagnostic clarity for adults wondering if they have ADHD using a novel process I developed. Built on established best practices, this process combines the tools of medical psychiatry with intensive dynamic psychotherapy. I offer medication initiation and stabilization for those who are likely to benefit and weekly intensive psychotherapy to support and facilitate the layers of the onion falling away. For patients who see me for ongoing therapy, I continue to prescribe medication as appropriate. For others, we have 5-8 appointments over 3-9 months to establish your diagnosis, start medication, and make sure medication dosing is stable. Then I provide comprehensive documentation that can brought to a primary care or psychiatric provider to continue medication.
Being in solo private practice, it is impractical to navigate the massive bureaucracy of insurance companies. I can only accept direct payment, and offer proof of treatment that can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
