MEET THE TEAM
This is Ms. Hill's 8th year at Scarlett Middle School. Before that she taught in Detroit, Taiwan, and San Francisco. She grew up in Michigan and has bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Michigan. In her free time, she loves to read, swim, garden, hike, play music, and spend time with her family. She believes that greater science literacy will lead to a more equitable, sustainable world. She wants to provide her students with opportunities to create their own understanding of how the world works and to explore the important ways science impacts our lives.
Mr. Thomas loves teaching middle school Science! He is excited to start his 20th year as an educator and work together to explain how the world works. He grew up in Texas and Tennessee and went to college in Norfolk, Virginia. His partner is also a Science teacher and working on her PhD in education at Michigan State University! They have three kids who are all in Ann Arbor Public Schools with the oldest starting at Scarlett this year! Mr. Thomas appreciates leveraging technology in the classroom to support student mastery. Sometimes that is a difficult balance but understands that with proper scaffolding it allows students to engage in learning, enhance their experiences and extend learning outside the 4 walls and into the real world.
Mrs. Raymond is excited to start her 5th year at Scarlett Middle School! She's been a middle school science teacher for 10 years, working both in Michigan and Kentucky. She grew up and attended college in Ohio. In her free time she enjoys reading, spending time with her family and watching sports - mostly football and baseball!
Ms. Erica Lamar
Science 7 and Science 8
Ms. Lamar loves to see the world. This is her first year at Scarlett but grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Ann Arbor Public Schools. For the last 5 years, Ms. Lamar taught in Las Vegas NV. Recently, she decided to move back to Michigan so she knew that Ann Arbor Public Schools is where she wanted to continue her career and she's trilled to be a part of the Scarlett Nation! In her free time, she loves to explore nature; some of her favorite hobbies are hiking, picnics in the park and hanging with her cat!
Science 6 and 8
This is Ms. Tabert's first year at Scarlett Middle School. She is thrilled to be here. Her family recently moved from Louisville, KY, where she served as both a middle school Science teacher (11 years) and a 6th-grade counselor (9 years). She has a bachelor's and a master's degree from Indiana University. In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family: camping, hiking, and traveling. She hopes that her students will feel comfortable taking risks and tackling challenges as they learn and grow this year.
