Ko Shih is a 5/6 grade teacher at Ann Arbor Open @ Mack. This is her TWENTY SECOND(!!) year of teaching. She grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Ann Arbor Open as a student!
Ko received her degree from Eastern Michigan University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. Ko is very excited to continue her career at Ann Arbor Open. This is exactly where she envisioned herself being. Ko lives in Ypsi and can often be spotted out enjoying the community (but without Luna. RIP, sweet dog.).
(also, Jason is much more wordy than Ko.)

This is Jason’s fourteenth year as a 5/6 grade teacher, and his ninth at Ann Arbor Open School. Open is the school that made Jason want to be a teacher. He's also a parent of two AAO students (his daughter Violet is an EIGHTH grader this year, and his son Abe is in fifth grade!).
Jason graduated from Eastern Michigan University with endorsements in Language Arts and Integrated Science. He taught for five years at Summers-Knoll, a progressive, independent K-8 school in Ann Arbor. In addition to his work as a classroom teacher, Jason has worked extensively with 826michigan, leading workshops, illustrating stories, and building robots. He also taught for three years at the dearly departed Green Adventures Camp.
His last name is pronounced many different ways by many different people, so you should probably just call him Jason.

Ko and Jason are AWARD WINNING TEACHERS!! (Ko won "Best Drawing" in the 7/8 grade drawing contest in 2005, and Jason won "Best Health Hat" at Winfield Elementary in Indiana in 1984). Ko and Jason are also 2020-21 AAPS Excellence in Virtual Instruction Award nominees.
Here are some nice things people have sent to us in the past. I'm pretty sure no one looks at this page anyway, so it's just a place for us to keep them where we can find them easily and get a nice pick-me-up. But you can look at them too.
(I keep forgetting that this exists and every time I remember it makes me laugh.)
A student wrote in and nominated us for Teacher of the Week in "The Week Junior"!
AAPS did a nice write up and a video about us!
"Just watched the AAPS excellent teacher video and read the article. You are awesome!!! (of course we already knew that, but now a few other people do too)"
You are a LEGEND!!! We absolutely adore you and want to thank you for the immense impact you have had on our kids. You and Jason are a phenomenal team and we are beyond lucky that our kids were able to learn from you!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. As I read [my kid]'s end of year reflection, I am reminded that on the first day of 5th grade, [he] came home and said, "Dad, I made a mistake. Is there any way I can switch out of Ko and Jason's class?" I don't remember if he used the word "mean" or "hard" to describe his first impression of you/ the class, but he was clearly intimidated by the uptick in expectation. And here he is writing that he doesn't want to leave, and the thing he learned most is time management. And all the progress he sees in himself over the last two years. He adores you as a teacher and I expect that you will in fact hear from him in years to come. You've left an indelible impression.
...thank you for creating such an amazing camp experience for ... all the kids. I admired so many things about how you teach and guide the kids. But it’s obvious by how great the kids were praising and celebrating each other — especially in recognizing who could use the most help and giving them any resource they had to help that person. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen kids humans any mammals do that so effortlessly. I’ll also miss your little riffs and life lessons in transitions!
I should add that I had a great time… thank you, thank you, thank you!
You changed our boy’s life in the best way, and we are forever grateful. You helped him gain confidence in a space that feels like he belongs and is loved. And you taught him a bunch of cool [stuff] too! Thank you, Ko and Jason.
Thank you both. I definitely did not cry at all today or yesterday or last week when you sent that picture of [our 8th grade kid] hanging out in your room. It's just a thick haze of emotion in our house right now.
Deep gratitude for both of you (and a bit of denial that none of our kids will be in your class anymore),
Hi Jason and Ko!
Ok so... remember how you always told me not to procrastinate? Well, actually you might not. Anyway, clearly I haven't improved much since then, since I put off writing this email for over four months. It's not like I needed to reply with more than a, "Thanks for sharing, I loved your class! Interesting fashion I had back then!" But I have always meant to write you both a message about how much your class meant to me, and for some reason I decided it had to be in the response to this email about Open Channel, as well as be long and poetic. I therefore waited for "just the right moment," which clearly shouldn't be four months later (actually it's not the right moment but I realized the longer I waited the more weird it became to write back so late). Also sorry this email is very long and it's summer so I don't expect you to read it or reply. It just makes me happy to send it. Here I go!
COVID sucked. At least, that's what everyone tells me. Because it didn't suck for me! I had a really great time in 2020, in large part because you both worked so hard at keeping us all happy and learning, at great sacrifice to your own happiness. I somehow learned a lot, and also had lots of free time to jump on the trampoline and stuff.
Then, when it came time for hybrid school, that sucked even more! Apparently. I kept having fun! I remember my weird semi-failed Rube Goldberg machine and eating lunch at our desks in silence. Weird times. (This is so stressful I feel like my grammer should be perfect.) Actually I just watched the youtube video about 2020 - A Year of Zoom. Without fail every time I watch that video -- which is suprisingly often -- I laugh out loud when the organ plays behind empty desks. It is just delightful.
I keep getting sidetracked, sorry. My point is, you could have checked out and just made us watch videos and do worksheets during the pandemic, but instead you worked really hard and made the experience as great as it could be for all of us.
Then the next year, I was nervous. Would Ko and Jason be as short as they said they were? Would Ko and Jason prove just as wonderful in person? Obviously the answer was yes. I had so much fun that year. I actually had friends, which was pretty crazy, but also I probably would have been fine without them as long as I had your class. Your writing prompts, POOT, Open Channel, whatever that skit with the negatons and protons was. It was all hilarious and rewarding. You are both, as you've no doubt been told, a perfect comedy duo.
I remember the day before E.J. and I were finding out what teachers we would have for fifth grade, we walked to the park and did little rituals to get into your class. "If I jump off this slide and land on my feet, Ko will be my teacher." "I'll be in Jason's class if I touch each of these poles." We went so far as to lie in our loft beds and bang our feet against the ceiling whilst screaming "Ko! Jason!" for as long as we could until Mom and Dad told us to shut up. A little compulsive and creepy, maybe, but we really wanted to be in your class. And it worked! (We wanted to be in your class because we watched a video you had put in the film festival about all the projects you had done and they looked like fun.)
I use the skills you taught me every day. Mainly the one where I actually get things done. Also the one where I am semi-proficiant in math and technology.
So I just wanted to thank you, mainly, for teaching me long division. Also for being the best teachers I have ever had, though that's less important.
I hope your new school year is off to a wonderful start! August flew by and I was sad that I wasn't able to visit AAO before the start of my sophomore year at Yale.
This semester, I am taking an Education Studies course: "Foundations of Education." I wanted to reach out, because we have spent the past few weeks discussing the practice of teaching and learning.
Here’s what I loved most about your class:
- Props & Recognition: This was a wonderful activity that boosted my own personal confidence and my ability to express gratitude to my peers and mentors.
- Book Projects: I loved the open-ended class projects that allowed for individual creativity and honed my skills as an artist, which has come in handy more times than I can count.
- 5th & 6th-Grade Projects: I still remember the (lengthy) research papers I wrote about the Galápagos Islands and the International Space Station. I loved the freedom to choose a topic of interest and dive as deep as I wished. In fact, I hope to conduct research and fieldwork in the Galápagos this summer!
- To-Do Lists: This was hands-down the most valuable part of your teaching style. I still keep a To-Do List today (albeit a virtual spreadsheet form) without which I would not be able to survive my class schedule let alone my unusually hectic lifestyle. I still feel a bit like a middle-school student when I excitedly cross out a completed item.
Your demonstrated passion and kindness in the classroom challenged me to be open-minded, and well-rounded. You made me want to be a strong leader and pursue my dreams: be a better version of myself. For that, I will always be grateful.
Thank you so much for all you did and continue to do for me.
Thanks to you and Jason for all the great years. Our family was lucky to have you.
I wanted to take a moment to let you both know how much we appreciate you both and the way you have taught the twins over this past year. This has easily been one of our best years at AAO. It's been exciting to see how passionate and intentional the twins have been in their learning in your class this year--coming home to talk about the projects they're working on, the math books they're excited to work through, the interesting discussions they have in class, making sure they're getting their work done without any reminders from us, and so much more. Your structure of class time, the way you have designed your learning units, and the culture of learning and accountability that you have created this year in your rooms has just been incredible. They are very different learners and what you've done has been EXACTLY what they've both needed. Thank you for being [our kids'] teachers this year and setting up them so well for this next chapter of school. We really appreciate you.
Hi Ko and Jason!! I was just thinking about my time as a 5th and 6th grader and I remembered a moment when I was telling you guys that you were my teachers and Jason said "I'm flattered but in the next few years you will say that same thing to your new teacher/teachers." I just wanted to let you know that you are still my favorite teachers and I wish I could still be in your class but that would mean I'm an idiot. You guys are way too good teachers for that to happen.
I will also like to add that I am enjoying my life without getting a shoe thrown at me.
Have a great rest of the school year!
Hi Ko and Jason!
I wanted to thank you both for a fantastic year. [My kid] adores you both and I knew she would. You two are simply magic and I wanted to send a quick note of thanks and gratitude. Your emcee gig last night (at 8th Grade Graduation) was a testament to this magic. You two make it look effortless and the relationships you have built with your students is amazing to see. Thank you for all your time, energy, and dedication. [My kids] and countless others have all been lucky enough to learn from you and they are better because of it. In the spirit of Rusty’s speech last night, I am in awe of what you two do.
We can't thank you enough for your hard work throughout the year! I could say this wholeheartedly especially after taking the bus with you all to have the full experience! WOW!!
[My kid] enjoyed being in your class so much and she always has such positive stories of you. She also matured a lot over the past year and seems to be much more responsible for what she needs to get done.
Thank you so much for being so patient with them. Words can't express how grateful we are for the wonderful year [our kid] had, and we look forward to another great year next year!
Thank you both for making this an amazing two years of school for [our kid]. He has learned and grown SO much - AND had a lot of fun. We truly feel lucky to have gotten you two for his teacher for 5/6. It was really fun having you emcee last night - best choice ever! [Our kid] really looks up to both of you, and I'm sure will remember his time with you with fondness for a very long time.
We are grateful for you and Jason, you made [my kid's] last two years so good, please tell Jason this- we think he really saw [our kid] and championed her... and we appreciate that so much. You two are a formidable duo and really made things happen for both of our kids.
This is my third child through Ann Arbor Open and my first with Ko/Jason's class. Their class is exceptional. My children have had great teachers through AAO - including 5/6 teachers - but Ko/Jason's class really goes above and beyond and is a great fit for [my kid]. Their class has made me not look at any other options for middle school.
I just wanted to say again how much [my kid] is enjoying your class.
...That he is getting regular and predictable feedback feels incredibly motivating to him.... he thinks he’s won the lottery every time he doesn’t have “homework” because he stays focused...He is coming home saying he loves school. He’s had good and bad experiences in school—but good has mostly meant the “absence of something bad today.” This is the first time I’ve seen him excited and identifying his strengths as a learner. Keep it up!
When I woke [my kid] this morning, he had his math packet under his pillow. I think he was hoping for the math packet fairy to come. So funny.
Thank you for the awesome engagement and investment in [our kid]. He is enjoying your class very much.
Thanks also for helping [our kids] stay up to date w/schoolwork during their absence. And for navigating the continual “pivots” in the mode of teaching (e.g. the online days this week). You and Jason are epic.
This year has been absolutely exhausting. I could never express how significant and wonderful a role you played in my family life by ensuring my kids were engaged, learning, having fun while going through such a touch year, from a global to intra-personal scope. Quite frankly, I don't know how we would have made it without you. While working at home and trying to juggle many moving parts including loud dogs, it gave me a great sense of peace of mind to know my children were in your classes getting the experiences they deserve and need, all children deserve and need. You did so much for them that you may never ever really know, but without your classrooms, it just would have been very bad. Thank you for everything you did for my kids and our family so selflessly and with such amazing and sophisticated skill and also while juggling your own situated-ness in this pandemic life. You are truly amazing teachers and people... I also think you all are hilarious and laughed several times a day about what was happening in your classrooms and how you made learning so much fun despite everything and just rolled with it, so patiently. Thank you for all you are and all you do.
[My kid] LOVES being in your class - she talks about it everyday. I truly appreciate what you do for the kids - you cultivate a love of learning. [My other kid] loved having you and so does [the kid currently in your class]. I feel very grateful - thank you!
You two are doing a wonderful job. Thank you for being such amazing and flexible people. We appreciate you! And the baking was a super fun time!!
You Guys- I just wanted to send you out a quick Fan Letter.
I get to overhear you being hilarious, all the while being great teachers (or maybe this things are linked?)
(I used to be a TV producer for PBS back in the day - you guys should have your own show!)
I just want to say THANK YOU for making my kids so comfortable and happy already in your amazing class! My husband and I feel like we hit the jackpot with you guys! [My kids] are so happy to go to school and they seem to be thriving already. They are typically excellent students but you are making it even easier for them. They love your organization as much as I do!!
Thank you for allowing me the moment to not only reflect on the grueling school year we just endured, but also to be able to see a more comprehensive picture of the role you played in these kids' lives this year. You made a sh***y situation that much more bearable, kept kids smiling (even behind camera) when their life at home felt depressing, gave them a reason to have hope when the light at the end of the tunnel was hard to see, and built a strong community when most of us felt isolated and alone for the better part of the year. Still to this day, really not sure how you even did it.
Really though, you two are magic educators and a dynamic duo. I hope that you feel that you received the proper kudos and recognition from others this year. Thank you so much for everything.
"I've been meaning to write to you for a while, but I'm finally getting around to letting you know that you've ruined remote school for [my kid] (in the best way). Because you were both so amazingly awesome at the end of last school year, when everything shifted online and you rolled with it all and managed to create and sustain an engaging, creative and fun learning environment even though everything was remote, [she] now has had the bar set super, super high and no classroom experience, online or otherwise, can ever hope compare to yours. She's scarred for life, basically. :)
[My kid] is [my kid], so she is getting by and "doing well" with school this year, but it has been hard to see how much she misses your classroom, both the physical and virtual. She is really hoping that [younger sib] will be placed in your class next year so that she can at least be a part of your class through the transitive property.
Mostly I'm writing to say thank you and you're the best and please know that all of your efforts (even though you make it all look effortless) have had a real and positive impact. I can't even imagine what this past year+ has been like for you both, and for all teachers. You're being asked to do the equivalent of ten or more jobs (under duress) while barely being compensated for one, let alone acknowledging that you are not just meat robots programmed to teach (and immune to disease) and that you have lives outside of being teachers and that you can't just bend the time/space continuum to your will and add hours to the day to do all of these jobs plus find time for frivolous things like, I don't know, sleep and stuff.
If there is any way we can support you as you power through the next month and a half and beyond, just say the word. If I can sing your praises to anyone "official" or send you candy and/or wine, etc., consider it done. If nothing else, please know that your invisible labor is seen and felt and so, so appreciated.
Hang in there and don't let the turkeys get you down. Here's to counting down to summer, to vaccines, and to amazing teachers like you both. Thank you for all that you do."
Here's a Secret Form!!
Excerpt from a letter to the Board of Ed:
"April 26, 2020
Dear Mr. Johnson:
As summer break appears on the horizon I wanted to take a moment to thank you and the board for the district’s, and the board’s, service to the community. We can all agree on the challenges but I like to remember the successes of this year:
As online education continued, our younger daughter’s teachers came up with ways to foster connection even as we remained apart -- baking and comics workshops a couple of afternoons a week. (The baking workshops were wonderful for all of us, as we got to try the pies and cookies our daughter made.) As much as she misses being in the school building, the engagement from her teachers (at drive-thru supply pickups and in letters to us parents) has made it probably as great as virtual education can be. The weekly self-reflection shared with us gives me a look at our child’s thoughts and ideas through questions I would never think to ask her myself. Ko & Jason ROCK."
There's more to this letter, but it's not about us.
"Thank you for doing end-of-week reflections, and for sharing them with parents. And thank you for discussing the Capitol events with students.
And while I’m at it – Thank you for helping students, collectively and individually, with work/study skills and time management. And thank you for assigning book reports. I’ve been eagerly waiting for that to happen since they started school! And of course, not only are you doing it but you’re doing it in a thoughtful way that’s scaffolded yet leaves room for self-expression and choice. And thanks for all the less obvious ways -- most of which I’m probably not even aware of -- that you go beyond what is necessary and give your students a rich and nuanced experience and cultivate love of learning."
"Ko and Jason use a variety of activities to keep students engaged, an essential element made even more difficult by telelearning. Every morning begins with jokes and a warm-up activity to complete. Jason is a talented artist and often illustrates principles and metaphors students are learning about. At lunchtime, students have the option to eat with each other in Zoom breakout rooms. At the end of the day, the class recaps the day’s events and watches a fun video together.
Their Schoology classroom is easy to navigate and you can tell they thought about how to leverage Schoology’s features, not just upload everything and call it “done.” For a recent book report project, they arranged a virtual “bookshelf” and invited parents to join their students in Schoology and check out all the students’ submissions. They allow for comments from students in chat and in Schoology - which allows for camaraderie."
"In these stressful times, we’ve appreciated how Ko and Jason keep it light and humorous during meetings and activities. We asked our 5th grader what she likes and she shared “Ko makes up songs about Schoology’s glitches and inconsistencies and they’re always very funny.” Ko and Jason also banter and tease each other, students can tell how much they care for each other. Seeing two very different adults get along and support each other is important. "
"You guys are just the best. I appreciate you and everything you have been doing...especially for my own kiddo. You make it look easy, and I know it is not."
"I just wanted to say how grateful we are that [our son] has joined your class. Although virtual schooling isn't what any of us want, this is the happiest we've seen him since February (maybe even June of 4th grade). He's a kid who thrives on the combination of clear expectations, real academics, and humor that you and Jason bring to the classroom. He has been eager to show us what he's working on, even when--especially when--it's newer or harder than what he has done before.
Thank you so much for having him, and thank you for all that you're doing for these kids while the rest of the world is so upside down."
"A little note to say:
1. Thank you for all your sincere work to make this challenging learning situation work!
2. Gosh you guys are funny together - you should do stand-up!???
I have been blown away at how much they are all engaged in learning, working as a team, and helping each other stay on track. I have never seen [my kid] work so hard at school in my life."
"Quick shout out to say I love you guys and think you are doing a phenomenal job! You know I’m strongly biased but I think [my son] has the two best teachers in the nation. For real though! I’ve had no doubts that you would rise to the occasion and make the best of our s***y situation. And that’s what I’m seeing. Seriously...love you two and your pedagogy!"
"Hi Ko I want you and Jason to know that you guys are probably my favorite teachers so far! You guys are hilarious and funny, but at the same time you are incredibly good teachers. I am so sad I only got one year with you guys. Thank you guys so much, you made this year amazing! "
"Ko and Jason:
You two are stars. Thank you for being so engaged and creative and enthusiastic and attentive. You made [my kids]'s year. You made our year. You made this pandemic's online learning so much better for our family and kept [my kid] up and at 'em every weekday morning. We will miss you this summer and next year. We feel robbed that he only had you for the last year. Fearless leaders, you have made an indelible mark!"
"I’m going to miss your weekly updates, Flipgrids, What Are You Doing creativity, and also your sense of humor through the year (especially with the pandemic weirdness cast upon everyone). I thank you for your perseverance and inspiration especially in the last few months. And also for leading our kids to be aware of the injustices and irregularities in the world around us. Those are hard conversations that you make look easy."
"We would like to thank you again for your exceptional teaching these past two years. The creativity, humor and thoughtfulness of your assignments never ceased to amaze and delight us.
Under your tutelage and guidance, we've seen [our kid] develop excellent work habits and independence--we didn't have to remind him once to do his homework-- and he made big strides in his writing. [Our kid] was very fond of you both and loved the way you worked as a team."
"[Our family] cannot thank you both enough for all the support you have given to your students, including [our kid]!, throughout the year, but especially since the stay-at-home reality started. Now, more than ever, good teachers are making a huge difference in the well-being of childrens' lives, and we are so grateful. "
"I cant thank you enough for all that you have done through these last 3 months - [my kid] will miss the google meets and movie nights.....and we are so grateful she is coming back to you in the fall. You helped [my kid] make the school shutdown be emotionally manageable and feel connected to you and her class. I know you carried much of the weight through all of this, and I thank you."
"THANK YOU for all of this. I sat in on your discussion last Wednesday and can see how hard it is to have this sort of a talk in a virtual environment with kids. You guys did well. It prompted a lot of difficult conversations here. Thanks for everything you are doing. "Above and beyond" doesn't begin to cover it. "
"I wanted to send a quick note to say thank you so much for being [my kid]'s teacher for the last two years. I cannot overstate the difference you've made in his life. These have been two wonderful years for him and I attribute that to both of you. He is a great kid and I really appreciate that you recognized all of the awesome things about him."
"You fostered [my kid]’s love of math, and made her realize that it is okay to take pride in her hard work. She saw in you a strong outspoken woman with confidence. Through you she discovered joy in using her abilities collaboratively. Her favorite memory is helping friends with math, and she still loves to get together with friends on Google Docs to write lengthy stories. Do you know that she and [another student] have started a lawn mowing business? They organized the whole thing using Google. I’m pretty sure they created their business systems with your influence.
You guys are truly the best, thanks for launching [my kid] with confidence!"
"Your Google Classroom is incredible and the kids are so interactive with you. You can tell they are in it with you. I hope you consider some PD for online "Open" teaching for our staff. I would really like to take the PD from you for the fall."
"[My kid] showed me the video prompts for "Ko's walk with Luna" and "Collecting Seeds" this week. Both of these are absolutely wonderful!! You are such thoughtful, funny and inspiring teachers and are doing an amazing job keeping the kids motivated, engaged, and learning while keeping a sense of community alive. Thanks so much for your hard work and dedication!!! "
"You are amazing. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for making these kids so incredibly happy and joyous in such a crappy world. [My kid] was so joyful last night to feel so connected. You have gone above and beyond.....we love you and are so grateful. You have made our lives much more manageable by engaging the kids with connection and activities and your fun-loving but high expectation way of being with them. I cant thank you guys enough."
"Thank you for your informing and very clear emails. It's so appreciated, especially now. You rock! And thank you for prepping our kids to not get stupid over the next 3 weeks. "
"You are doing such a great job, I am so grateful for you. Also the intruder thing is a little bit funny. Don't let them tell you different, it IS funny."
"Hi Ko and Jason - I just wanted to thank you both for being such awesome teachers:). [My kid] is full of a light and passion I have not seen before in her, and I can't help but think it's your influence and the great experience she's having in your class. I'm so grateful she has you both as not only her teachers, but role models. "
"I just want to say thank you for nurturing [my kid] during his transition to your class! There were tears when he learned he was in your class and split from his group of good buddies... Nonetheless, the tears quickly dissipated and we are seeing more excitement about school than ever! The book project was the first time that he has been asked or required to do any kind of school work at home. It has been a pure delight to see his enthusiasm about the project. He is so proud of his work, and I appreciate you holding him accountable for this. He really seems to be enjoying the overall classroom experience. "
"You are magic! Maybe you should switch to 7/8, LOL. Thank you for being the greatest ever, you are a lifeline."
"I can only imagine how challenging it is to figure out how to do some type of instruction remotely to over fifty kids. I just want to let you know you both are awesome. If anyone can figure this out it’s the two of you. Thank you. "
"I sent [my kid] with hand sanitizer today. We had some extra. Maybe you can have them bathe in it. "
"I just wanted to take a minute and say very clearly: THANK YOU. As a father of 4 children all participating in various ways in the AAPS system, I can say the focus, dedication and overall greatness coming from your classroom is widely noticed and appreciated. While we're all dealing with layers upon challenges right now and there's varying levels of adaptability each classroom can give, I can say you two just warm our day, our week and our hearts.
Thank you for all you're doing to keep our students learning, healthy and focused on consistency and normalcy as best as we all can in these crazy times. [My kid] couldn't ask for better teachers. Thanks again, stay safe and be well.
You two are amazing!"
"I want to thank you for your work with [my kid] this past year. She greatly benefitted from your expertise and the nurturing atmosphere that you foster. Have a great summer!"
"Hey, Ko I am not feeling great. There for I will not be going to school. Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow and can come to school.
P.S. Make sure the class behaves."
"Your class was such a pivotal time for him and he loved being with you and thrived there, and I know those 2 years played a big part in his development and helped in a big way to get him to where is now and where he's going."
"We just wanted to give you a quick shout out: thank you so much for all that you do. [My kid] is so happy in your classroom and just adores you. You are MAGIC! We appreciate your humor, enthusiasm, wise intuition, and support, he is having a great year. "
You are truly exceptional teachers, both individually and as a team. [My kid] learned so much from you in the two years he had you, both in terms of academics and also in how to be a responsible, organized and self-motivated learner. Your smooth transition to fully online last year was nothing less than amazing. And the fact that you stayed in touch with last year's cohort into this year —with film nights and social gatherings —was so wonderful, kind and community-minded!
"I want to thank you for the care and thought you put into the narrative on [my kid's] report card. I am so grateful for your ability to see him as a whole child, to recognize his strengths, and to push him to achieve more than he thought he could. I feel like we won the teacher lottery with you."
