March 30TH
Happy Sunday Everyone!
Ending a restful and fun spring break, I am excited to see everyone back on the courts. For Varsity, this marks our first competition week and I am very excited to see our competitive spirit on the court.
Team Dues
Coach Albie and I have officially sent in our rosters and have received clearance from Athletics. Beginning coming back from break, team dues will need to be paid in order for players to receive their uniforms. In order to compete, all players must be in uniform for competition dates.
Varsity $325
JV $225
Option 1: Payments can either be in the form of a check or online payment (link found here). If you are paying online, you may use this link: https://ann-arbor-huron-high-school-booster-club.square.site/product/tennis-women-s-team-fee/111?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=8
Please Note: There is a transaction fee for paying online with a credit card. It is 3% which is why there is a strange amount instead of the evenly split number ($225= $232.05 and $325=332.05)
IF PAYING ONLINE, PLEASE TAKE A SCREENSHOT TO VERIFY! MAKES UNIFORM PASSING OUTS MUCH EASIER!
Option 2: You may pay via check made out to Ann Arbor Huron High School Booster with the memo Athlete's Name & Women's Tennis Team. Please hand these directly to Coach Lizzie or Coach Albie. (No transaction fee necessary)
Uniform Distribution: Week of March 31st-April 4th
Uniforms will be distributed AFTER team dues have been received from players. If paying online, please have athletes show a screenshot of payment. Uniforms for teams include:

3. FAN SWAG OPPORTUNITY!
- Do you love to have a twinning moment with your favorite tennis player? Do you want to be comfy-cozy standing in the freezing Michigan spring but still have Huron Pride? New this year we are giving the option for fans to buy their own windbreaker. These will be individual orders (I have ordered all of the players already!) and you will ship to your house-- note this is not a fundraiser for tennis, we do not get the money for this. March 9th
Happy Sunday Everyone!
Tonight’s the night! Spring sports season will officially start tomorrow and I am so excited to see everyone out on the courts. Thank you to the MANY volunteers who came out on our rainy/snowy Friday to help set up the courts. We had so many volunteers that it was the quickest and easiest set-up I have done!
PlanetHS Forms
With the start of the season tomorrow, eligibility with the school is based on PlanetHS forms. This is a requirement by the school and district. If I have not reached out to you individually via email, that means you are good to go for tomorrow!
Varsity Tryouts
Varsity tryouts will occur Monday-Friday 3:15-5:15 pm. Athletes should be “toes on the line” at 3:15, which means ready to warm up, not lacing shoes. Please make sure you have all of your equipment (racquets, shoes, athletic gear, extra sweatshirts, water bottle) packed and ready. If athletes need a place to store materials, they may drop them in room 4300 between 7:45-7:55-- please do not ask 1st hour teachers for a pass if you are late and respect that I teach a 1st hour class and will not allow for the interruption . Pick-up must occur between 2:50-3pm – open to JV and Varsity
For Varsity Tryouts, athletes should be prepared to play a variety of sets in Doubles and Singles. I make the draws based on attendance so if you do not fill out the absence form 24 hours in advance, this negatively impacts the flow of tryouts. Please remember to do so here
More information on tryouts and cuts will come later on. I will reiterate this in the parent meeting but all tryout inquiries and conversation should occur between player and coach. While I welcome parent support throughout the season, I appreciate the trust and respect in the process of tryouts.
JV Tryouts (From Coach Albie!)
The following are just a few things to expect for JV tryouts.
1. First day (Tuesday 3/11/25) we will have a cardio warm up followed by players hitting and serving, we will get an idea of how many players are trying out. On this day I will go over how tryouts will work and answer any questions that players may have. I will also want to gather/double check I have everyone’s accurate information. PlanetHS forms must be in!
2. Tryouts will also be held on our first 2 Fridays, I will update if this changes but please expect to have practice on 3/14 and 3/21 (2 of our optional days which I plan on making these 2 mandatory to make sure we fully complete tryouts).
3. Tryout matches will begin on Wednesday 3/12 with quad match ups happening after warm up the next three days.
Quad Match ups: What this means is I will put you on a court with 3 other players and you will play 3 sets with no ad scoring. Once all 3 matches are over you will come over and report scores to me, depending on numbers and court availability you may play again or we may have to switch from full sets to timed sets.
4. Tryouts and all practices are a very important part of our team at Huron High School. All players are expected to be at all tryouts and practices. Failure to be at tryouts will result in 3 0-6 results for that day of tryouts. The best ability is availability and I cannot reserve a spot for someone who does not make tryouts a top priority, especially when we have a ton of interest and limited availability.
5. After the first week of tryouts I will have more of a sense of exactly where our numbers are at and we will either have more quads after taking the week one results or it will be doubles match ups I arrange for part 2 of the tryouts, this will be strongly determined by our numbers. Tryouts conclude on 3/21.
6. Once tryouts are over I will discuss with Coach Lizzie and final rosters will be made. Varsity will determine how many players and who they are keeping. Once that is finalized I plan to make the final JV roster the day after.
4. Parent Information Zoom 3/10 at 7:00 pm
Here is the link for tomorrow’s zoom: https://a2schools.zoom.us/j/87577972998
At this season Coach Albie and I will go over season expectations, guidelines and policies, and field any questions. If you cannot make this session, don’t worry I will send slides and the recording!
Again for helpful reminders for the season, you can click here to add dates to your google calendar! I recommend both players and parents add!

March 2nd
Happy Sunday Everyone!
Turning the calendar over for the best month of the year -- Tennis-season is upon us!
PlanetHS Forms
We still have many students not eligible due to the lack of PlanetHS forms. THIS WILL NEGATIVELY AND DIRECTLY AFFECT ATHLETES WITH TRY-OUTS. All players – Varsity and JV— must have these completed forms before they step foot onto the court. I have sent individual emails on Tuesday as well this week. If these forms are not confirmed by the time tryouts start, Players will be turned away and forfeit their scheduled matches. Forms must be approved by our Athletics Office, please be mindful this can take 1-2 business days. With a competitive draw this year and cuts being made at Varsity and JV levels, please do not neglect this essential step. Coming to try-outs with paper copies is NOT an acceptable form either.
Registration through Athletic Department
https://huron.a2schools.org/athletics/registration
Three Main Steps:
PlanetHS accounts: Student and Parent!
Parents and students must create separate accounts, using different emails and/or mobile numbers.
For new players/parents setting up account: Link to guide
For returning players/parents: Link to guide
This is required for all sports in Ann Arbor. This is NOT tennis-specific dues and we do not receive this money, this is for insurance purposes.
Obtain an updated PHYSICAL!!!!
Players will NOT be allowed on the court until this is uploaded. Be signed by a physician (M.D. or D.O.), Physician's Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. Forms signed by chiropractors will not be accepted!
Be dated after April 15 of the previous school year.
2. Putting up Nets: Date Change to Friday March 7th
Due to a scheduling conflict, I need to move our preseason net preparation to Friday March 7th. This is not a mandatory event but the more hands we have helping the better. Great time to meet some of the players and coaching staff if you are new. Meet at 3:00pm by the cafeteria if you are available.
3. Google Calendar
For helpful reminders for the season, you can click here to add dates to your Google calendar! I recommend both players and parents add!
4. Follow Varsity on Instagram!
Thanks to our amazing captain Serena Chang, we have a fun and informative social media presence for our Varsity team. If you haven’t already, follow us at @huronwvstennis. You will find match updates, team bonding, and great memories of our year! We will hopefully get a few volunteers this year on JV to run an account as well! (Will send the handle once made)
So excited to start the season! Get ready for an action-packed two weeks!
Best,
Coach Lizzie + Coach Albie
February 23rd
Happy Sunday Everyone!
Here is your weekly tennis newsletter for your viewing pleasure!
On Wednesday, I reached out to players for individual check in’s on these forms! Please 1). Check your email, 2). Have a game plan of completion (obtaining the physical means schedule an apt so I don’t want this to fall at the last minute. Again, if you do not have a green check on PlanetHS, you will NOT be allowed on courts and that WILL affect our time sensitive tryouts.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach me at 734 223-7703 or my email albertsilv40@aol.com.
Hope you had a nice weekend!
Coach Albie
PS: I strongly recommend you understand how scoring works and that you get out and get as much hitting and conditioning in as possible. Also please make sure you are getting plenty of water and healthy food in, tryouts and the season can be very mentally and physically demanding and we want everyone to be in top form!
Notice of Revision MATCH SCHEDULE: JV vs. Monroe 24-25 Tennis Schedule
On the match schedule I incorrectly put an Away game. It has been updated on the schedule. Next week our captains will send out links to google calendars so you can add your matches on your digital calendar!
Varsity Tryouts (From Coach Lizzie!)
Tryouts will start Monday 3/10 and go to 3/21. They will be held from 3:15-5:15 everyday (weather permitting). These will be very similar format as prior years with a variety of challenge matches, technique analysis, and physical condition throughout the week.
Unexcused Absences/ Unexcused Tardies will result in a forfeit. Please fill out absence form in advance
Dress warm! Have a filled water bottle and feet ON THE LINE at 3:15 to start.
Matches will consist of singles and doubles (athlete preference will be taken into consideration).
Reminder! Athletes, mark your calendar for putting up the nets next Monday, March 3rd right after school. Meet at the courts!

I have talked with athletics, and my understanding is that the “pay to play” will not be billed until I submit official rosters of Varsity and JV, so if an athlete decides not to play or does not make the cut, they will not be charged.
Obtain an updated PHYSICAL!!!!
Players will NOT be allowed on the court until this is uploaded.Be signed by a physician (M.D. or D.O.), Physician's Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. Forms signed by chiropractors will not be accepted!

Starting next week I will be reaching out to players for individual check in’s on these forms! The last thing I want to do is turn people away on the first day of tryouts but I must follow guidelines!
2. Introducing Captains
While I might be part of the communications team, many updates, important information and encouragement will come from our amazing student leadership! Voted by our collective team, we have four amazing captains: Senior Varsity captains Katherine Ma, Serena Chang, Maya Fu, and senior JV captain Wilhelmine Guenther
Hello! My name is Katherine Ma, and I'm a senior this year. I've been playing tennis for seven years now, and being on the women's tennis team at Huron has brought me so much happiness in my life. I've made so many friends from this team, and as captain, I hope I can make our team like a family
Hi! My name is Serena and I’m a senior! I’m so excited for the upcoming season to start and meet the returning and new players on the team! Let’s have an amazing season!
Hi! My name is Maya and I’m a current senior — this is my fourth year playing Varsity tennis! This team really becomes a community of supportive, dedicated people to fall back on. Look forward to working hard (lots of team bonding happens over Coach Lizzie’s criminal conditioning workouts) but also play hard and meet forever friends. I look forward to meeting all the new faces! Feel free to email me at 314166@aaps.k12.mi.us or text me via groupme anytime if you have any questions.
Hi! My name is Wilhelmine. Since joining Huron tennis, I’ve had so much fun and made tons of amazing memories with my team all while learning and playing some great tennis. The team has a really supportive and welcoming energy, and it’s always felt like everyone has a place regardless of their skill level or experience. While we are definitely still competitive and want to win, JV is a great opportunity if you are looking for a fun and friendly tennis experience.
3. FAQ: Information for New Joins
Have you checked out our tennis website?
Linked to the athletics page and linked here is our Huron High School girls website. I try my best to update with information weekly as well as post in our newsletters. Feel free to explore the page!
Some Highlights and Key Take-Aways
When are tennis dues billed?
Not until AFTER tryouts. With cuts happening, we want to make sure the process is as streamlined as possible. Expect to have an email at the end of tryouts (March 21st weekend) about dates when tennis dues will be expected.
What do Tennis dues go to?
Since our organization is not subsidized, we use our dues in a variety of ways to best support the team and ensure a fun experience for all. Once dues are paid, the goal is that there are very few extraneous costs within the season.
An itemized list is also available. Uniforms, extra events, and spending is run almost entirely at the discretion of captains and team votes.
Absence Form
If you are already aware of an absence, please fill out this form in advance as I continue to plan. This is helpful for all parties as I can plan practices with adjusted line-ups and navigate making sure the correct number of matches are scheduled.
ADDED TO MATCH SCHEDULE: April 30th, South Lyons East
Varsity@ South Lyons East
JV @Home
Thrilled to add more matches for both teams!
That's all for tonight! As always, feel free to contact me or stop by my classroom if you have questions!

February 9th
Good Evening Everyone,
We are quickly approaching the season so I am reaching out with some updates. Please read over this whole email and reach out if you have any questions. If any parent/guardian did not receive this email and would like to be added, please email me their email and I will add them.

Note for Varsity: Varsity will be wearing the same skirts as last year. New varsity members will receive a new skirt. Unless a drastic accident has torn the skirt to shreds (I know we have many furry four-legged pups amongst our fan base) or a substantial size change needs to be corrected, please have your black lulu skirt ready.
JV Updates: Coach Albie
With a growing and competitive JV, we are excited to continue to develop the skills and technique to compete against other schools and eventually progress to varsity. This year, we will have tryouts as our growing interest numbers in Girl’s tennis is becoming a wonderful obstacle to have!
Tryouts will be predominantly doubles focused so get some playing time in! If you have questions email Coach Albie at asilverman@wihi.org
Varsity Tryouts
If you are interested in trying out for Varsity, plan to be present and available for Tryouts March 10th-21st after school 3:15-5:15 pm (weather pending).
Varsity will consist of 16 players with 12 roster positions. The 16 will be announced at the end of tryouts. Positions may be fluid for the first couple weeks of matches to ensure best possible line up and partners.
It will be chilly, so bring warm weather gear. A FILLED WATER BOTTLE. And your own snack (yes the snack box will be back this year… don’t worry….)

Season Schedule: Varsity and JV Match Schedule
I wanted to share with you all my working schedule as of today. As you know, a variety of things can affect schedules (michigan weather, conflicts, transportation, ie). However, I feel fairly confident in sharing our next couple of months together!
If you are already aware of an absence, please fill out this form in advance as I continue to plan. This is helpful for all parties as I can plan practices with adjusted line-ups and navigate making sure the correct number of matches are scheduled.
Note on Varsity Absences: As a member of a Varsity team, you should PRIORITIZE your presence at practices, matches, and other events. I understand this means you might need to make some hard choices but being a part of a team requires commitment and at times sacrifice. For those who have worked with me in the past, I am very accommodating and empathetic when it comes to academic related absence or illness. But in the face of extra-curriculars, choices will need to be made.
Pre-Season Workouts
I recommend that EVERYONE get some time on the court before the season. Picking up a few more days of cardio and strength will be advantageous. You know I love my conditioning time :)
Best thing to prepare for tryouts will be playing matches. Prioritize getting time on the court in a competitive setting. If you are interested in doubles, don’t neglect network and strategy.
