Honorable mention MIPA Individual Awards: in depth feature
This was my first proper story. the initial challenge was getting my head around the complexities of the proposal and the underlying process, combing through hundreds of pages and hours of meetings. It was intimadating to conduct interviews with public officals instead of just students but this cured me of these fears. The story came out well.

1st place MIPA Individual Awards: News Story
This was a really rewarding story to work on. As a journalism class, we had a heated discussion about the lawsuit, which was the talk of the school, and afterwards, the class decided I should be part of our coverage. Reporting on this presented two challenges, understanding legal language and protecting the identity of the student, because they were not named in the lawsuit.

I attended a really great workshop at the 2022 MIPA about how to do good sports reporting through source building. This was the first chance I had to implement what I learned. It was fun to try to generate a well rounded picture of the subject through a diverse set of sources, from former coaches to bosses. My interview with Criswell was gratifying when he visibly enjoyed the depth of my questions. This was also my first venture into graphic journalism.

This story sat in the back of my mind for a while. I have a bunch of firends who were affected by this and eventually, their explanations to my questions were not quite enough, so I decided to formally look into it. It was an effective story with a quick turn around. I also saw the downstream effects of source building as I was able to confortably speak to AD Criswell on background.

The intresting part of this story was just the undercoverage it had received. The administration never formally told students and many teachers could not recall being told this. I only learned about it when I tried to submit an announcement and was rebuffed. I just followed my curiosity and the story ended up as a really solid piece.

I formatted this story for web publication. It was quite enjoyable to implement a new visual format and experiment with new tools. I thought it came out well and I have continued to try alternative visual formats
2023 - The Skyline Post
Part of my vision for the development of The Skyline Post was to grow our presence as a source for students to come to regularly. A big part of this is sports reporting so finding a way to report on sports scores was important. This was a challenge twofold: reliably and quickly reporting scores and seamlessly integrating this into the site. I was happy with how it came out visually and saw a bump in site traffic.

Max had excellent content in his story but needed some help narrowing it down and implementing some journalistic style. It was a bit of a challenge as it was a narrative piece/profile but we still wanted to connect it to the Skyline community and I felt we effectively did this at the end. most of the time, I sat down next to Max and talked him through my process so he could understand and learn.
