Harvard President Claudine Gay has resigned after intense scrutiny over her career.
Claudine Gay was charged with plagiarization, but later found not guilty by Harvard’s board. Her resignation comes after even more scrutiny is being mounted against her. One of the more recent charges is “Duplicative Language”, though that too has been found “not intentional or reckless” by Harvard again.
The campaign against her is currently spearheaded by Christopher Rufo, a conservative activist who fights against “institutions (deemed) too literal.” After Claudine Gay resigned, he posted to X (formerly Twitter) with “SCALPED.”
“For presidents to be taken down like this, it does not bode well for academic freedom.” President Irene Mulvey of the American Association of University Professors said when commenting on the situation. The resignation of Claudine Gay will have a lasting impact on not only Harvard but other ivy league colleges. The title of President is a very important and prestigious title, being pushed out of it through harassment is a terrible omen for others. Claudine Gay continued to face harassment over claims found inaccurate. Ultimately, Harvard has found her not guilty of all claims brought against her, specifically claims of plagiarization and negligence. Even after being found not guilty she has decided to resign after further speculation and pressure from outside of Harvard.
Graduation into stay-cation. Claudine Gay was inaugurated September 29th, 2023. She is now resigning after only 6 months as president of Harvard.

The Golden Globe Awards took place on Sunday, January 7. This awards show celebrates both TV and movies. There were a lot of predicted winners and familiar faces at the awards show, but also some surprising, historic wins. Oppenheimer was the biggest winner of the night winning best actor Cillian Murphy, best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr), best director (Christopher Nolan), and best movie. Barbie had a historic win in a new category. The female led film won for cinematic and box office achievement. Billie Eilish also won for her song, What Was I Made For, from that movie.
Senior Candy Zhou stated, “I absolutely loved Barbie. It made me feel heard and seen as a woman and the Billie Ellish song is one of my favorites.” The first Native American, Lily Gladstone, won for Killers of the Flower Moon. In TV, Beef won for best mini series and best lead actor and actress. Succession and The Bear also took best drama, comedy, and acting awards. There was more diversity in TV and movies this year and on the ballots. It was good to see more representation in Hollywood and to watch everyone being celebrated for their contributions to the entertainment world.
For the 2024 Globes there was a new announcer, comedian Jo Koy. He received mostly negative reviews from critics and viewers. Being an announcer is a tough job and it is hard to please everyone, especially in a room full of celebrities but Jo Koy seemed to drop the ball and took it too far. His jokes ranged from Saltburn starring Barry Keoghan, Ozempic, and the Oppenheimer barbie joke, as well as making a Taylor Swift joke that had the audience upset and led to an instant unimpressed reaction from the comedian. He later expressed that he felt bad about making these out of pocket jokes during the Golden Globes. Jacqueline Lawrence stated, “The barbie joke did it for me, the way he sexualized the movie instead of trying to express the actual meaning was not funny.”
This year's Golden Globes were a success but not as much as past year resulting in backlash towards the host due to his out of pocket jokes.

New Year's Resolutions often fail- but not always. There are always ways to improve your odds of success. The start of the New year serves as a great opportunity for many to set goals for themselves and have a fresh start. But what happens after the ball drops at 12a.m on December 31st? After studying around the community , the most commonly selected New Year's goal was fitness and getting to the gym. Another common one was prioritizing mental health over physical health.
If you are struggling to stick with a new years resolution or need help finding one this is a helpful 5 step guide to keeping your new year's resolutions.
Number one: start with a small goal. You may be feeling motivated and excited about your goals, but don't let the excitement take you to unrealistic levels.
Second: try to plan out your resolutions, make a calendar and try carving out some time for your new goal to your daily schedule. Some examples: going to the gym for 30 minutes after work/school, meditating 15 minutes after lunch, making healthy meals before the week starts, spending time with friends 3 times a week etc. Senior Owen Lawrence took on this goal, he stated “Being a senior swimmer for AA and also trying to carve out time for the gym has been a challenge for this new year. Having a planner and finding days that work best for the gym has been a big help for my goals.”
Number three:invest in buying something to set goals. It could be as simple as a notebook planner, some gym weights, or even a cookbook. Having something you paid for could become a reason to motivate yourself.
Number four: try setting a goal with someone who has the same desires and passions as you. Sometimes having that other person and other mindset can help keep you motivated to reach your goals, if someone else is in your corner and you are in theirs the chances of you being persistent are more likely.
And lastly, have fun with it, this doesn’t have to feel like a chore. You can make it as fun or serious as you want it to be. Try having a positive attitude and looking at it as something you are fulfilling your life with and just have fun!
