Welcome to Kindergarten at
Richard Henry Lee Elementary School!
We are excited to have you join our RHLee family.
Here are activities you can do with your family to prepare for Kindergarten in the fall.
Ways to support your child at home in literacy to prepare for Kindergarten:
Read aloud to your child (let them choose the books, it's ok to read the same book multiple times).
Point out rhyming words when reading.
Talk about the characters and events in the story.
Have your child draw a picture of their favorite part of the story.
Have your child "read" to you by using the pictures to tell the story.
When driving, point out simple signs on the road. Point out letters in your child's name.
Have your child practice writing their name with only the first letter capitalized.
Play letter and word games! (Bingo, boggle, Apples to Apples, Guess Who?)
Ways to support your child at home in math to prepare for Kindergarten:
-Practice counting sets of objects (ex. cereal, blocks, beans, etc.)
-When you are outside count different objects you see (birds, dogs, people, etc.)
-When driving in the car identify numbers you see as you drive.
-Let your child help you cook by measuring ingredients, reading and identifying numbers in your recipe
-Play board games! Rolling a dice and identifying numbers on the dice and counting that many spaces
