About Me

I have been a school counselor in AACPS for over 19 years and have been at Benfield Elementary School since 2010. I grew up in Pennsylvania (outside of Philadelphia) and went to University of Delaware for my undergraduate studies where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Community Services and then went on to obtain my Master's degree in School Counseling from University of Virginia. I have two young daughters of my own and enjoy working with all the wonderful students at Benfield, who I also consider my "kids". It is my goal to be seen as an important member of a support system for every student who walks into our school building.

The components of the Benfield Elementary School counseling program come from the National Standards for School Counseling.  The three broad goals for an effective counseling program are to help ALL students with:

Academic Success

Career Awareness

Personal/Social Development

I hold small lunch groups throughout the school year in which students are invited to meet to work on shared concerns such as anxiety, anger management, friendship skills, study skills, or self-esteem.

I am also available to meet with individual students when problems arise.

Parents are encouraged to reach out to me as another resource within the building in helping to make your student's school experience a positive and successful one.
