Course Overview
This course will include individual concepts of vocal production as well as choral techniques appropriate for a large ensemble. A wide repertoire of choral music and experiences will be used for the development of comprehensive musicianship. The course designation indicates year enrolled. Students will be expected to advance to the next appropriate level of ability in Chorus and Vocal Instruction. After school activities and rehearsals are integral to the course, and grades may reflect such participation. The number of required non-school
hour performances and practices during a school year varies by school.
Course Goals for Mixed Chorus Instruction that the students will meet are:
Students in the Mixed Chorus course will improve breath control, tone quality, diction, pitch accuracy, and vocal health through regular warm-ups and guided exercises.
Students in the Mixed Chorus course will foster listening skills, blend, balance, intonation, and rhythmic precision necessary for effective group performance.
Students in the Mixed Chorus will learn and perform a diverse range of choral literature, representing various musical styles, time periods, and cultures.
Students in the Mixed Chorus will interpret musical works with attention to dynamics, phrasing, text expression, and stylistic nuances.
Students in the Mixed Chorus will build teamwork, communication, and mutual respect through collaborative rehearsals and performances.
Students in the Mixed Chorus will develop individual accountability for preparation and contribution to ensemble success.
Students in the Mixed Chorus will participate in regular performances, both formal and informal, demonstrating poise, stage presence, and musical excellence.
Students in the Mixed Chorus will engage in self-assessment and peer evaluation to identify strengths and areas for growth as an individual singer and ensemble member.
