Did you know that Lake Shore is an Arts Integration school? This means that educators throughout the school promote the integration of "the Arts" with traditional academic and artistic areas of study. We believe this will help each student make cross-curricular connections that will serve them in and out of the classroom.

There are 5 central Cultural Arts which are: Art, Arts & Humanities, General Music, Media, and Physical Education that all students will learn about.

3rd through 5th grade students can also sign up for elective Instrumental Music (band & orchestra) and/or Chorus. Chorus classes will meet in-person once a week for 30 minutes. Instrumental classes will meet twice a week in-person for 30 minutes each time.

We are excited to teach the students back in-person! Music & PE classes Pk-5 meet twice each week for 30 minutes at a time. Each of the other Arts classes meets once a week for 60 minutes.

Guidance lessons with Mrs. Risley 🀝

Students will participate in a monthly classroom lesson with Mrs. Risley that range in content from friendship to personal and internet safety. There will also be some small groups offered for students who may need assistance in different areas.

Instrumental Music with Mrs. Dickinson 🎷🎺🎻πŸ₯

Instrumental music instruction is offered as an optional course to students entering the third through fifth grade. Classes are for thirty minutes twice a week during the regular school day. Students learn to properly care for their instrument, read music, and demonstrate strong performance and leadership skills. While music instruction is offered at no cost to you, you must provide your child with his/her own instrument and book. More information about instruments is available on the Instrumental website. We are planning on concerts and a possible field trip that will include evening performances as long as safety metrics allow. Participation is expected in these events so we can show off all of our hard work.

General Music with Ms. Heist 🎡🎼

Students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade learn the basics of music theory, composers, and six major platforms of learning set forth by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Topics such as rhythm, form, melody, tone color/timbre, and harmony/texture are explored in depth. But this is not your average music class! Lake Shore Elementary School promotes the integration of music classes with other academic and artistic areas of study. We believe this will help each student make cross-curricular connections that will serve them in and out of the classroom. Music classes meet for 30 minutes, twice each week.

Art with Mrs. Hann 🎨

When our pre-kindergarten through 5th grade students come to the art classroom, they explore a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional arts forms. All grades study art history through the works of master artists like Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gogh, Andy Warhol, and Henri Matisse. We use a variety of media throughout the grade levels, allowing the children to work with tempera and watercolor paints, oil pastels, paper mache, and clay. In class we study the element and principals of design and incorporate them into our projects. We also focus on an appreciation of art and an understanding of how different pieces are created. Art classes meet once a week.
