What is AVID?

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is an academic program designed to provide support to students who are in the “academic” middle. The purpose of AVID is to move students from average level classes to more rigorous coursework while providing academic support in this elective. During AVID classes, students are supported in reading/writing across the curriculum, note taking & test-taking strategies and study skills. In addition to life skills in organization, time management, goal setting and collaborative group participation. Another aspect of the program allows the students to apply these skills to career and college exploration through guest speakers, college tours, field trips, college and career research assignments and presentations. AVID provides the opportunity for each student to create a plan whether they are college, career or community bound.
