Dear Parents,
You may hear your child talk about or share the newest book he or she read during reading group time. There is a time in your child’s day where he or she will read with one of the AIS teachers here at Brookside.
The purpose of this support is for your child to gain control over the reading process by exposure to books that are supportive enough to keep him or her reading, but contain enough challenge to make your child "work" through the book using his or her own reading strategies. It is important that we keep each group small so that we can watch this happen and move each child into more challenging books when he or she is ready.
Most days your child will be bringing home a book to read to you. This is a familiar book that was read in their reading group. Children need to re-read the books to build their sight vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and confidence. We depend on your involvement to help your child become an independent reader.
We ask that you promptly return the book each day, so that we can give your child a new one. These books are crucial to the success of our program and we use them with many children throughout the year.
Thank you for your help and support,
The A.I.S. Staff
