Sustainability

The Rylott Lab actively supports the University of York’s Sustainability Strategy:

• Energy & Resource Efficiency. We expect team members to power down equipment when idle, conserve water and heating, and prioritise virtual meetings or sustainable travel options for university business.

• Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We champion digital-first workflows using electronic lab notebooks, emphasise single-use reduction and material reuse, and divert all eligible lab and general waste away from landfills.

• Sustainable Research Practices. New team members receive sustainability inductions and are encouraged to join our Green Impact initiatives, building on our department's back-to-back Platinum Green Impact awards.

• Ethical Procurement. Where possible, we source IT hardware through sustainable channels aligned with university standards and ensure proper end-of-life recycling for all electronics.
