NWEA - Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) : Reading, Math, and Language Usage
Grades: 5, 6, 7, and 8
When: October 2021-22
Purpose: This assessment provides teachers with a baseline for student performance. Re-assessing measures student progress/academic growth. It will also fulfill the mandated Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) for the 2021-22 School year.
MEA (Maine Educational Assessment) - EmPowerME: Mathematics & ELA/Literacy/Essay (Online) NWEA - MAP is the assessment that is being used for the 2021-22 School year.
Grades: 5, 6, 7, and 8
When: October.
Purpose: The Federal Government requires all schools that receive federal funds to assess their students each year. The MEA fulfills this requirement.
MEA (Maine Educational Assessment) Science
Grades: 5 and 8
When: May 2-13 is the window for assessing all 5th and 8th grade students
Purpose: Maine will continue to use the MEA Science to assess Annual Yearly Progress in this area.
NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress)
Grade 8 (Grade 4): Randomly Selected Students are assessed in Mathematics or Reading
When: Every other year
Purpose: "The primary purpose of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as The Nation’s Report Card, is to measure the educational achievement and progress of the nation’s students at established grades and ages in relation to the content of NAEP frameworks. NAEP results also enable comparisons of what representative students know and can do among states and jurisdictions, among various demographic groups, and over time. NAEP results provide insight into K-12 education and student achievement in our nation."
