Yafit Haba is an Israeli- born glass artist residing and working in the Seattle, WA. area.
Yafit holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the Technion- Israel’s Institute of Technology. She believes that playful experimentation and the excitement of discovery is at the heart of scientific research, as well as the essence of creating art. Applying her scientific knowledge and research methods, she furthers her artistic discovery and creations by looking at new and inventive ways to create textures and designs in glass.
Yafit's passion for art started when she was a little girl, experimenting with different materials and methods. As a glass artist she started working with stained glass, later mastering the techniques of glass fusing, and soon after staring to experiment with metal, ceramic, and wood, to create unique combinations in a single art piece. Each item is handcrafted from an original design and is a one-of-a-kind piece.
Inspired by her roots as a Jewish woman from Iraqi origins, her creations and art focus heavily on Jewish motifs and Judaica, such as traditional Passover bowls, Menorahs (traditional Jewish candle holders), Shabbat candelabras, Hamsas (traditional symbol of a hand for good luck), Prayers for home blessings, Mezuzahs, and holiday tableware. Although traditional, her artwork is suited for the modern home, with interpretations of the traditional objects as modern and playful objects of art, such as menorahs in the shape of a guitar or an airplane, and dinnerplates with bold and joyful colors.
Working from her Redmond studio in Washington state, Yafit creates her artwork one at a time with each piece displaying its own individual character.
She hopes you enjoy her art as much as she enjoys making it!!!
