"Lemon Tree" is a song by German band Fool's Garden from the album Dish of the Day, which was released as a single in 1995 and became a major international hit in 1996. The single reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart and remained at number one for four weeks in Germany. It also reached number one in Austria, Ireland, Norway and Sweden.
Peter Freudenthaler said that he wrote the song on a Sunday afternoon when he was waiting for his girlfriend.
This year (2018) is the fiftieth anniversary of the publication in the United States of the Beatles song 'Hey Jude'. Four days after the publication in the USA, the album containing the song, appeared in the United Kingdom and immediately in the rest of Europe.
'Hey Jude' was an immediate success, mostly thanks to the coda, the famous 'Na-na-na na, hey Jude', which over the years has become a hymn all over the world.
But the story behind the song is not that well known…
Paul McCartney created this song under very special circumstances. Fifty years ago, Lennon decided to divorce his first wife, Cynthia Powell, to go with Yoko Ono, his second wife. In June, McCartney travelled from London to Weybridge to be with him and his son Jules.
McCartney and Jules had a great relationship. Where in the melody we can hear 'Hey Jude' he first said 'Hey Jules', with reference to John Lennon’s son. McCartney explains that he composed the melody for the little boy, who was then only five years old, to explain to him that things happen in life and that they must move forward.
They created the video clip to promote the song. In it, you see a fake performance in a television show, altered in the end by the sudden appearance of the audience around the musicians in the coda. The video was a great success and it catapulted 'Hey Jude' forever.
