The Vicco-von Bülow-Gymnasium was founded in 2009. It is a grammar school in an area which, combining the advantages of being close to the city of Berlin with those of a more rural environment, is very popular with families with children. Our students come from all social backgrounds. Due to the fact that our region is part of the former GDR, there are few students with migration backgrounds.
Inclusion is going to be an important issue in Brandenburg schools because of the government's decision to close specialist schools and teach students with disablilties together with other students. Therefore it is essential that our students become more aware of the situation of people with disabilities both in Germany and in other European countries.
As even twenty years after the German reunification there is a sad shortage of qualified English teachers in the primary school sector, many of our students have had little practice in really using their first foreign language so far, and they are very much interested in doing so and in getting into contact with schools abroad. Languages and communication play an important role in our school's curriculum. There are some students with special needs at our school who we cater for with extra lessons in different subjects.
