Greetings Dream Team Member!
Even though summer is here, we are already getting excited about next year and all that there is to look forward to on the Dream Team. Even though summer means being active and being outside, we want you to be sure to make time for reading.
As you know, every student in Vermont is required to read 25 books a year, which includes the books you read over the summer. Therefore, we are requesting that all students on our team decide on a reading goal for the summer, and then work to achieve it. You must read a minimum of FOUR books this summer. You can always read more, but four is the minimum.
You will need to decide what a reasonable goal is for yourself and then set aside some time over the summer for reading. Rainy days are great reading days! As you finish a book, record it on the Summer Reading Contract you were given on Step-Up Day. If you've lost the contract, just record your summer reading on a piece of paper, along with the author and genre of the book. Be Sure to have your parents sign next to each book to verify that it was indeed read or listened to (audio books count, too).
On the first day of school this fall, please bring your completed reading contract back to school with you. There will be a small celebration for students who reached their summer reading goal. In order to participate in the celebration, you must bring your completed log with signatures on the first day of school AND you must have met your goal.
The local libraries can provide you with great summer reading lists if you're looking for some good books. However, you may read any books you want. Magazines and comic books do not count, though.
Happy reading and have a GREAT summer! We look forward to seeing you all in August!
Your teachers,
Mrs. Barrett & Mrs. Dente
