Overview for Parents:
6th Grade social studies ends with a unit on the ancient Romans. Students will learn about the founding and development of Rome, and the creation of the Roman Republic. Our class will examine some of the stories the Romans told about themselves, and connect those stories to the beliefs and values held by the ancient Romans.
We will compare and contrast the Roman Republic to the U.S. government, and trace Rome's transition from a monarchy to a republic, and then to an empire. We will learn about ancient Romans including Julius Caesar, Octavian, Mark Antony, and famous non-Romans such as Hannibal, Spartacus, and Cleopatra. We will also learn about the daily life of Romans and the different social classes found in ancient Rome.
