Every preschool class will be assigned a visit to an elementary school building and a kindergarten classroom. Before your visit, brainstorm a list of questions with your students to ask the kindergartners. You may even wish to write the questions out on sentence strips or chart paper and take them with you!
Example Questions:
Where do you eat lunch in kindergarten?
Do you get to play outside every day?
Do students nap in kindergarten?
Do you have centers in kindergarten?
What new things will we learn in kindergarten?
What kind of homework will be assigned in kindergarten?
Do students wear a uniform in kindergarten?
What kinds of field trips do you go on in kindergarten?
After the visit, follow up with a class discussion about aspects of kindergarten that will be the same as preschool and aspects that will be new and different.
Afterwards, It's also a thoughtful touch to write a thank you note to the kindergarten class that hosted you!
