Vocabulary
Classify - sort animals according to shared features and characteristics
Warm-blooded - "endothermic" - make their own heat using internal energy
Cold-blooded - "ectothermic" - gain heat from outside their bodies
Invertebrates - animals without a backbone (spinal column)
Vertebrates - animals with backbones and craniums (hard, bony cases around the brain)

Vocabulary
Adaptation - a special feature of an organism that helps it survive in its environment.
Arctic - Northern polar region.
Camouflage - The special markings that an animal uses to hide from its enemies.
Desert - an arid or dry region that receive less than 10 inches of rain per year. National Geo link.
Environment - Surrounding conditions that affect the plants and animals living in a place.
Field - an area of open ground, especially an area used to grow grass where low green plants are the main vegetation
Forest - a large tract of land covered with trees and underbrush
Grasslands - grass-dominated areas where few or no trees grow and include prairies and savannas. National Geographic link.
Habitat - a site or type of environment in which a plant or animal lives and where elements required for a plan or animals survival are present
Migration - the movement of animals in response to seasonal changes or changes in food supply
Ocean - a body of salt water that covers 3/4 of the earth's surface.
Rainforest - a hot and humid tropical wood land with an annual rainfall of at least 100 inches where broad leaf trees create a canopy over the space. National Geo link.
Range - The area in which an organism may travel in its lifetime.
Savannah - A grassland located in Africa that remains warm year round and is characterized by a wet season and a dry season.
Suburban - a residential district location on the outskirts of a city
Tundra - Treeless region in the arctic. National Geographic link.

Vocabulary
Consumers - Eat producers or other consumers
1.Herbivores - They eat producers.
2.Carnivores - They eat herbivores and other carnivores.
3.Detritivores (decomposers) - They recycle the energy from dead organisms to make nutrients available for producers
4.Omnivores - They eat producers and consumers.
Producers - They make their own food through photosynthesis.
