About Us

Westran R-I School District continues it's journey as a Missouri School-wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS) District. Our initiative is called "The Hornet Way". School-wide Positive Behavior Support includes a wide range of systemic and individualized strategies for achieving social learning outcomes while preventing or reducing problem behaviors for all students. SW-PBS is a proactive approach based on a three-tiered model of prevention and intervention. It includes universal prevention through employing school-wide systems of actively teaching and reinforcing appropriate social skills and behavior. Each building has a SW-PBS team. The lead coaches in each building also serve on a district level team. We are really excited about doing things "The Hornet Way"! Westran School-wide Positive Behavior Support has 3 tiers of Intervention. Tier 1 is The Hornet Way, all students are taught the school expectations and recognized in a variety of ways when they meet those expectations. Tier 2 is Intervention. Students can be referred by teachers, parents or themselves to get extra supports for behavior and academics. Each building has an Intervention team working to build a plan of support for students that are struggling. Tier 3 is the highest level. Only a small percentage of students require this level of support. Students that need special education, a 504 plan or intensive intervention can be referred for help at this level.
