About the Class
This class is designed to help students build a strong mathematical foundation while working on problem solving skills. Students will work on solving complex mathematical questions while persevering in their investigations, looking for patterns, clearly communicating ideas and strategies, and critiquing each other’s work. We will focus on the number system, expressions and equations, functions, geometry, statistics, probability, and mathematical practices.
Class Discipline
· 1st offense: Verbal warning
· 2nd offense: In class isolation and phone call home
· 3rd offense: Isolation in the “buddy room”, email or phone call home
· 4th offense: Office Referral
· Disrespect and misbehavior for a substitute teacher will result in an automatic after school detention and parent-teacher conference, either in person or via phone
Homework
It is important that students do each homework assignment as homework provides the extra practice needed to strengthen the skills learned in class. Homework will typically be minimal. It is essential it be completed each night because we will go over questions together in class the following day.
Grades are based on homework, assessments, and classwork. Classwork and tests account for a higher percentage of the grade, but any/all assignments and tests can be corrected/redone for full credit.
Grades are weighted as follows:
Assessments: 40%
Classwork: 50%
Homework: 10% (Very few assignments will count as homework. If an assignment was started in class, it will be counted as classwork.)
