Week of January 11th

Post date: Jan 10, 2016 7:25:05 PM

In last week's blog, I talked about New Years Resolutions and striving for continual improvement. As Mr. Buseman and I have gone through our first five months at Webster City Middle School, we both agree we have learned a lot and still have a lot left to learn about how the rest of the school year operates at Webster City Middle School! We have spent lots of time asking questions, observing, and just seeing how everything works here at WCMS. One of the things we noticed is that we have many teachers who are able to stay after school to help support students on a regular basis, but we also have many teachers who support our school by coaching and supervising activities at the middle school and high school. We wanted to ensure that every student, in every grade level had a place that they could go to get homework help after school on a consistent basis. We worked with our Building Improvement Team to discuss how we could go about offering this support, and we have developed a partnership with A.C.E. (All Cultures Equal) to create the LYNX Learning Lounge. Every Tuesday and Thursday that we have a regular school day, the Media Center at WCMS will be open from 3:30 to 4:30 PM to assist our 5th through 8th Grade Students with homework. Two teachers will be in the Lynx Learning Lounge each week to provide support, one teacher from Webster City Middle School and an ELL (English Language Learning Teacher) from A.C.E. Transportation following the LYNX Learning Lounge each week will be the responsibility of students and their families. Individual teachers who are currently and regularly providing after school homework help still plan to do so, but this will just be a consistently scheduled additional opportunity for students to receive the support they need. We are excited about this opportunity to partner with a great community non-profit organization like ACE, and to provide extra support for students and their families. Students, this is a great opportunity to help make 2016 your most successful year ever!

Thanks to the students & staff at Webster City Middle School who exemplified great Character by caring about and supporting others. We were able to collect $750 in donations for the family of Payton Henry! Payton was a Kindergarten student at Pleasant View, she passed away following a car accident over the holiday break. Please keep Payton's family and friends, and our students and staff at Webster City in your thoughts in the difficult weeks and months ahead!
