Digital Script, not music- (Start memorizing your lines &/or when your onstage) link
Your Job- Read and watch the musical, imagine it in your head. Do this:
Character Analysis:
This helps you identify the context of your presence onstage verbally and physically. In other words, why you say what you say and do what you do in the story. This helps bridge the gap between you, the actor and the character, so that it feels relatable for the audience. Put in the work to know what is happening: for you, those around you, and how it motivates your existence in the story.
Even if your character only sings, someone in the audience is looking at you to help them get into the story.
If the script doesn’t tell you the exact answer, you get to use the context you decode in the story and make it up :) link
If this^ is overwhelming, then read the show with this in mind:
Pinch then Ouch
What am I reacting to? What is my reaction?
I get pinched, then I say ouch.
You can then layer in the “how” you say ouch, and “why” you say ouch “how” you said it as you piece together your characterization.
When you are reading the story, think about each domino, each pinch-and-ouch, and begin linking them together so that you can be a believable part of the story listening and reacting with authenticity.
This is going to be our best show yet because YOU are a part of it, truly.
Thank you,
