Student Conduct Matrix ~ Remote Learning

Parent/Teacher Communication:

Consistent, two-way communication is KEY to your child’s success in school. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions/concerns. Email me at jgiordano@wcpss.net any time and I will return your email within 24-48 hours. Please ensure you sign up for Guardianship on your child's Google Classroom (once established) so you can receive alerts regarding your child's work completion. I also encourage you to review the comments/feedback I provide to your child with them in Google Classroom.

Classroom Newsletters/Updates:

All newsletters with new and updated information will be found under that tab here. I will also email you the link when new newsletters are ready for you.

Student Routines & Expectations:

Please keep these points in mind:

  • Each day students are expected to JUMP ( Be ....Joyful, Understanding, Motivated and Polite) while working online with their classmates.

  • Students should be working in a space conducive to learning and away from distractions.

  • Supplies and learning tools should be readily accessible for easy access when they are needed.

  • Students should log in approximately 2 to 3 minutes prior to our start times, and remain engaged during all learning times.

  • Students should working on independent assignments and turning them into Google Classroom by dates due.

  • Students should review feedback provided by me and make changes to their work as needed.

Assignments, Grading & Google Classroom:

All assignments will be posted in our Google Classroom. Students will find resources like instructional videos and practice activities to complete. This is where I will provide most of my feedback of their work. Students should not assume an assignment is finished just because they clicked submit. They should check back to see if I have returned it to make corrections and to read the feedback. Grades will be given for proficiency of standards taught.

Lunch:

A specific time will be designated during our school day to break for lunch (11-12:15). Students in need of lunches can access the Wake County Schools website for distribution sites, dates and times. https://www.wcpss.net/food

Snacks:

I don't mind if kids snack during our work times as long as they are focusing on learning and it is not a distraction to them or others. However, there are plenty of built-in breaks that would allow for quick snacks. Please use your judgment.

Attendance:

To be marked present, students are expected to participate in the Virtual Academy by

  • logging into our lessons,

  • participating in activities &

  • turn in assignments.
