MATERIALS:
- Expanding file folder
- Pencils
- Pen (preferably not black) for correcting homework
- Notebook (Spiral or Composition) - OPTIONAL
EXPECTATIONS:
Daily homework assignments will be assigned each school day. One of the most critical parts of learning mathematics is through practice, correction, and learning from errors. Homework will be checked for completeness, corrected, and discussed every day. Math homework assignments will be posted in the classroom and on the team webpage calendar. There will be no credit given for homework problems with no work shown. A “working lunch” could be assigned for repeated offenses of no homework.
GRADING:
- Martin Grading policy: A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 70-79, D = 60-69, F = below 60
- There are three grading categories:
- Major Assessments = Tests and large projects are worth 50% of the final grade.
- Minor Assessments = Quizzes and small projects are worth 40% of the final grade.
- Practice = Homework completion, warm ups, and formative assessments are worth 10% of the final grade.
- Work not handed in is recorded as a zero.
- Major and Minor Assessments will be marked five points down each day late.
- Collected Practice Assignments will be accepted late and be given a maximum of 60%, if all work is shown.
- No late homework will be accepted, unless in the event of a student being absent.
- At the end of the quarter, no overall average will be recorded below 50%.
- Martin 6th Grade Math - Grade Recovery 2019-2020
- Grade recovery is an opportunity for all students to prove mastery of the curriculum.
- Grade recovery will consist of an in-class cumulative quarterly assessment covering the material from the quarter.
- Each cumulative quarterly assessment will be divided into unit sections and scored separately.
- When a student scores higher on a unit section, that unit’s original test grade will be replaced.
COMPLETING AND CHECKING ASSIGNMENTS:
- Do ALL HW in pencil. Everyone makes mistakes!
- Check all HW in a pen that is NOT BLACK.
- When checking, NO HAPPY CHECK MARKS! They waste your study time.
- If a solution is wrong, mark it and WRITE THE CORRECT SOLUTION.
MAKE-UP WORK:
- It is the student's responsibility to consult the math website and/or another student. Make-up work is submitted according to guidelines in the Martin Handbook.
