I look forward to working with and getting to know each of you! Reading and learning is the key to unlocking many of life's opportunities.
I am also Broughton High School's Literacy Coach. I am available to coach staff as you plan and implement strategies to enhance student learning, and I am available for students, during class time and during office hours, Thursday from 2:30 until 3:00PM (and also by appointment anytime you need me). I began teaching English in the Lake Dallas Independent School District, near Dallas, Texas and moved to North Carolina in 2007. I worked closely with NCSU professors from the Friday Institute, engaging students in projects and activities that were "cutting edge" for that time.
I completed a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology in 2011, awarded by NC State University. During this time I transitioned out of the classroom and into the Curriculum and Instruction / Academics Department for the Wake County Public School System.
As an Instructional Technology Trainer, I helped educators all over Wake County learn to integrate student learning practices using technology, starting with the 2011 rollout of iPads in STEM and Global schools. I created Google Apps for Education training, both online and face-to-face and began hosting Google Apps for Education Summits within the Wake County Public School System district. I also set it up so that teachers becoming Google Certified would be awarded credits within our system.
My husband and I live just outside of Raleigh. We have two adult sons. Adam graduated with a BS in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University and is a Naval Flight Officer with the US Navy, recently completing Test Pilot School. Austin graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in Fermentation Science. He is currently the property manager for a brewery incubator system where he oversees the shared spaces occupied by several independent breweries.
