What Is School Based Occupational Therapy?
The goal of school based occupational therapy or OT, is to promote optimal independence in the performance of classroom tasks and throughout the school day. Examples of skills addressed during school based occupational therapy include management of garment closures, organization/management of belongings and activities to improve a student's coloring, writing (letter formation, spacing between letters and words and placement on the line) and scissor skills. Exercises and activities to promote improved grasp and pinch strength, eye-hand coordination and visual motor integration are utilized during therapy sessions to target these skills.
