About Mrs. Gordon

In 2007 I started my undergraduate studies at Dowling College where I played Lacrosse for four years (Go Golden Lions!).

While I was studying at Dowling, I had the opportunity to study abroad venturing to Ecuador in 2011 to visit the Pasochoa dormant volcano and preserve, visit the Equator and explore the region's cities and natural hot springs. While in South America, I visited the Amazon rain forest and had the opportunity to explore and study the various plant and wildlife, interact with natives of the Amazon, and was even blessed by a shaman! Our final stop was the Galapagos Islands where I had the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and see his work while visiting the various islands and viewing the native wildlife.

In 2012 I had the opportunity to travel on the "Fire and Ice tour" which took us to some amazing places. While I was there, I was able to study active volcanoes and glaciers. We traveled to Iceland and got to visit the Eyjafjallajokull volcano which had recently erupted in 2010. We visited the geysers and the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, which sits on top of the active volcano Katla. (Thankfully it didn't erupt while we were on it! )

From Iceland, we flew to Italy to stay in Naples and visit one of the most famous volcanoes, Mt. Vesuvius! We had the opportunity to visit the monitoring center located at the base of the volcano. We had the chance to learn its history and some of the methods that they use to monitor the volcano. We also got to visit the ancient city of Pompeii and see the artifacts. From there, we traveled to the island of Stromboli where there is an active volcano. We were able to climb the volcano and were lucky enough to see the eruption!

In 2012 I graduated with a dual bachelor's degree from Dowling College. In 2016 I graduated from Dowling with a Masters in Literacy Birth - 12. I am fortunate to bring these experiences back to my students and help them explore science and literacy through experience and knowledge. I continue to study, take classes and workshops to keep my teaching up to date! You never stop learning!
