SOLAR ECLIPSE

Never look directly into the Sun because it could damage your eyes!! This rule holds true during an eclipse, even though the sky will get dark! The only way to safely look directly at the Sun during an eclipse is through special solar-viewing glasses. Click here for you a list of reputable manufacturers and authorized dealers of solar filters and viewers; these include companies with which members of the AAS Solar Eclipse Task Force have had prior (and positive!) experience as well as companies whose products have been certified safe by authorities that are recognized and whose certification have been confirmed to be genuine.

Check out AugustEclipse.com. This website offers advice for kids (ages 2-11) on how to watch the eclipse safely, an educational video with the Space Racers (see below for more information) characters, a hands-on eclipse activity and an "eclipse viewing kit" that's available free via online download. The aim is to help kids understand the science behind the total eclipse.

Use the Eclipse Map to figure out where the total eclipse is visible and at what times.
